Everybody knew that it was coming and the day has finally arrived when the Sony PlayStation 2 has stopped production altogether. The gaming console has had a mighty good run though, selling well over 150 million individual units worldwide since it’s epic release way back in March 2000.
It was truly a revolutionary games console for many people and generated the next generation of gamers. It was the first console to get a short nickname as well with many people calling it the PS2.
There will no doubt be PS2’s still around the world for many hundreds of years to come. Even if they do become antiques, because there are still a lot of people that like to play the classic games that are on the system.
Classic games like the first four Tomb Raider games, Metal Gear Solid, Crash Bandicoot, Resident Evil and many more. Sony have said that they will continue to produce PS2 video games for the future though. So it is not all bad news for PlayStation 2 lovers.
One of the reasons for this announcement is most probably the long awaited release of the PlayStation 4 machine. We all know that Sony Computer Entertainment are working on the new console. For now though, it is an end of an era for the iconic PS2.
