Our Full Bioshock Infinite Review

BioShock Infinite Review

Bioshock Infinite, which was released on March 26, 2013 had huge shoes to fill. The game, not only had to face postponements of its release, but also had to face the gargantuan task of living up to the huge hype created by being the third part of the hugely successful Bioshock series.

With both the earlier games being rated as two of the best first person shooters ever. While most games would buckle under such pressure, Infinite, developed by Irrational games, stands up to the challenge. And, according to our Bioshock Infinite Review, boy does it deliver!

The game has you playing an ex-Pinkerton detective with a shady past, Booker DeWitt who has to clear some debts, has been tasked with finding and bringing a woman from the city of Columbia, a city suspended in mid-air using unexplained “quantum mechanics”.

Columbia is as different to Rapture, the underwater city in the previous two installations as it gets. The dark and eerie surroundings are replaced by sunshine and bright colors. The city is replete with minute details and the efforts taken by the developers are extremely evident.

The game takes place during the early twentieth century and the era is reflected in every aspect of the game, from the design of the city to the available weapons.

The game follows the same style of play as the earlier games in the series, and if you’ve played them before you will feel right at home. You get to carry only two weapons at a time, and the player also gets a number of unique special powers from time to time using vigors, which are similar to plasmids from the earlier versions.

You can use the vigors, which have two variations, and the weapons available in a variety of combinations against your enemies. You also have the option to upgrade your weapons using in-game cash which, along with ammo, health packs, etc. are not available in plenty.

So make sure to collect as much as you can. Combat is also made more interesting with the ability to use Columbia’s rail system to “drop in” on your enemies or to escape from combat.

The AI is nothing to write home about and is one of the very few weak spots of the game. There are a number of glitches but that doesn’t take anything away from the fun combat experience. Enemies are still challenging, and tactics are the key when it comes to defeating them. The different kinds of enemies makes each combat a unique experience.

The story line is one one of the most engaging aspects of the game. It keeps you enthralled till the very end and leaves you asking for more. The story is by no means perfect, and does contain a number of loop holes.Tthe whole game play experience is richly satisfying for all. The voice acting is excellent and the graphics leave you enthralled.

Available across all major platforms and heading to the MAC in August 2013, Bioshock Infinite is one of the best games of the year and is a must play for fans of the franchise or the FPS genre. Apart from the slightly off AI and a very few number of holes in the story, there is absolutely nothing to complain about. We give BioShock Infinite a definite Rating: 9.5 out of 10 in our review.
