Blizzard have announced that World of Warcraft has 7.7 million subscribers which is down from 8.3 million last time the numbers were officially released.
The total represents a massive loss of over 600,000 subs in the past three months which takes the number of players playing the MMORPG to it’s lowest figure since the launch of The Burning Crusade expansion pack way back in 2007.
WOW had over 10 million subscribers when the latest expansion Mists of Pandaria was launched in September 2012 last year and almost 13 million in 2010 when the game was at it’s highest peak. The official movie is on it’s way set for a 2015 release which should help spread some much needed publicity for the game.
At the beginning of this month, the company decided to try and stop the decline of gamers cancelling their subscription by introducing an all new in-game store. It doesn’t look like Activision Blizzard are likely to make WOW a free-to-play module in the months ahead, but they may have a change of heart at some point in 2014.
