An interesting selection of Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag screenshots have appeared online today, but it’s not what you’re expecting! To date, there’s just been images released of the pirate days and Edward Kenway in particular. Now though, there’s a bunch of screens that show the present day for the very first time.

The shots are mostly of the Abstergo headquarters in a modern day setting, with the offices and reception in full view. The fans will no doubt get stuck into the pictures to try and get clues about what the game’s storyline is about. In one of the images, there’s a variety of post-it notes that are glued to a desk.

The images came about a present day Q+A over on the Assassin’s Creed Twitter account.

This comes off the back of the developers Ubisoft announcing that the PS3 and PS4 versions will be getting exclusive content upon release.

Abstergo Industries is a prominent corporation in the “Assassin’s Creed” series, serving as the modern-day face of the Templar Order. Its headquarters have been shown and referenced in various games in the series, starting from the first “Assassin’s Creed” game in 2007.

In the first game, players are introduced to the Abstergo headquarters through the perspective of Desmond Miles, a captive who is forced to relive the memories of his ancestors through a device called the Animus. The building is portrayed as a high-tech, sterile environment with advanced technologies and high security.

In “AC IV: Black Flag”, players explore a different side of Abstergo through the lens of an unnamed protagonist. In this game, Abstergo has diversified into the entertainment industry with a division called Abstergo Entertainment, which is set in Montreal, Canada. This division uses Animus technology to explore historical events for use in films, video games, and other forms of media.

The Abstergo Entertainment headquarters contrasts with the original Abstergo setting. The entertainment division’s office is less sterile and intimidating than the original headquarters, resembling a modern tech company’s office with a more casual atmosphere. It features open-plan working spaces, a cafeteria, and recreational areas.

Throughout the games, Abstergo is presented as an organisation with global reach and influence, involved in various fields, including pharmaceuticals, weapons, and tech development, among others. They’re known for their research into genetic memory and their development of the Animus.

Remember, Abstergo Industries and its projects are generally used as a narrative tool to connect the historical events and settings of each game to the modern world, and to the overarching conflict between the Assassins and the Templars.
