As we’ve all found out today via the massive Gamescom event. FIFA 14 is to feature a whole host of legendary football stars on the Microsoft Xbox 360 and Xbox One, but there’s still no news regarding anything female related.

EA Sports are now requesting feedback from fans on whether or not they’d like to see any professional female leagues added to the FIFA series for the first time in the franchises long and successful history.

Matt Bilby of EA Sports gave a quick interview to Polygon, and he said that Electronic Arts asked for feedback off of fans about five years ago. According to Bilby, fans who responded said that they only wanted to play as high-profile world class teams such as Manchester United and FC Barcelona.

Since that moment almost five years ago, Bilby thinks that people’s attitudes towards women’s sport has changed quite significantly. He said:

There’s interest in women’s U.S. national teams. There’s last year’s big Canada versus U.S. match during the Olympics, there’s the Women’s World Cup taking place in Canada.

The fact that women’s football in general is getting a lot more attention than in previous years, he says that female features included in future FIFA installments is “a lot likelier” and that “fans just need to be vocal.”

Battlefield 4 and Call of Duty: Ghosts have made the headlines this week with their inclusion of female soldiers into both of their respectful titles. It seems that it’s just a matter of time before the worlds biggest football/soccer series follows suit as well.
