The horror title is set to receive its most exciting update yet, with the release of a free co-op Horde modeNew Game+, and a brand new area. Scheduled for October 22, 2024, this sixth major patch adds significant content, alongside the launch of Dead Island 2: Ultimate Edition.

The new co-op mode, Neighbourhood Watch, tasks players with defending a frat house from waves of zombies, offering a fresh take on survival and strategy in the post-apocalyptic setting of HELL-A.

Neighbourhood Watch: Team Up and Defend

In Neighbourhood Watch, players take on the role of the Bobcats, a group of college students fortifying their frat house against an oncoming zombie horde. Set over five fictional days, the mode combines preparation and defence mechanics. For the first four days, players gather supplies, set up traps, and reinforce their shelter. Each day, they must choose one reward, such as new abilities, defensive structures, or rare weapons, all in anticipation of the final fifth-day horde.

The variety of gameplay offered by different Bobcat classes is a key part of this mode. Each class has unique abilities that suit different playstyles:

  • The Chemist: Specialises in explosive traps and corrosive substances, wielding a grenade launcher to create havoc.
  • The Medic: Focuses on healing, using med stations to keep the team alive during the zombie waves.
  • The Hunter: Utilises ranged weapons like crossbows and throwing knives, and can distract zombies with firecrackers or meatstick traps.

Unlike the base game, Fury Mode won’t be available here, adding an extra layer of difficulty. Players must rely solely on teamwork and strategic planning to survive the final onslaught.

New Game+ and Increased Difficulty

For those looking to replay Dead Island 2 with a twist, the New Game+ mode offers plenty of new challenges. Players can return to the main storyline with their favourite characters and weapons, now armed with an additional skill slot and a higher level cap. This mode introduces new skins, brutal weapons, and an increased difficulty, forcing players to adapt to tougher enemies and brand-new foes.

Alongside the Horde Mode and New Game+, a new playable area based on Venice canals will be added to the game, expanding the in-game world of HELL-A.

With so much new content to go alongside the already released Haus DLC and SoLA expansion, fans should be kept on their toes for the next few months.

Ultimate Edition and What to Expect

To complement the free update, Dead Island 2: Ultimate Edition will also launch on October 22, 2024. This comprehensive edition includes the base game, both story expansions, five weapon packs, and each Slayer’s Premium Skin Pack. For those who haven’t jumped into the chaos of HELL-A yet, the Ultimate Edition offers the complete experience at once.

With the release of Neighbourhood WatchNew Game+, and the Ultimate Edition, Dead Island 2 is set to offer both new and returning players an exciting range of fresh content to dive into.
