Bandai Namco have today released the official launch trailer for the upcoming Elden Ring DLC Shadow of the Erdtree.

What is Shadow of the Erdtree?

Shadow of the Erdtree is a big add-on for the game Elden Ring. It’s like getting a whole new part of the story to play through. This expansion takes us to a brand new area called the Land of Shadow. It’s a place that’s been hidden away from the rest of the world, and it’s full of secrets waiting to be uncovered.

When Can We Play?

Mark your calendars! Shadow of the Erdtree comes out on June 21st, 2024. That’s really soon! You’ll be able to play it on lots of different game systems:

If you live in North America, you’re in for a special treat. You can start playing a little bit early, on June 20th at 9 PM PT or 11 PM ET.

In the main game of Elden Ring, we learned about a magical place called the Lands Between. It was ruled by powerful beings called demigods. One of these demigods was named Miquella, but we didn’t get to meet them in the first game.

Now, in Shadow of the Erdtree, Miquella takes center stage. They’re waiting in the Land of Shadow for someone special to arrive. Could that someone be you, the player? We’ll have to play to find out!

New Places to Explore

The Land of Shadow is going to be a big place to explore. The game’s creators have said it might be even bigger than Limgrave, which was the first area in the main game. That means there will be lots of new things to see and do!

From what we can see in the trailer, there are going to be all sorts of different environments:

• Spooky forests
• Ancient ruins
• Misty swamps
• And probably many more surprises!

Each area will have its own challenges and secrets to uncover. It’s going to be exciting to see what’s around every corner!

New Characters and Voices

One of the most exciting things about the new trailer is that we finally get to hear Miquella speak! In the original game, Miquella was only mentioned by other characters. Now, they have their own voice and personality.

We also see glimpses of other new characters:

• Messmer the Impaler: A scary-looking warrior who might be an important boss fight.
• Other mysterious figures who seem to be important to the story.

It’ll be fun to meet these new characters and learn their stories as we play through the expansion.

Dangerous New Enemies

Of course, it wouldn’t be an Elden Ring adventure without tough enemies to fight! The trailer shows us quick looks at some of the new bosses we’ll face:

• Giant, scary monsters
• Powerful warriors
• Magical creatures

Each of these new enemies will probably have their own unique fighting styles and tricks. Players will need to be clever and quick to defeat them!

Fans have longed for a return of super villain Malenia, but unless the devs have something really special up their sleeve, that’s not looking probable.

A Word of Caution: Spoilers Ahead!

If you’re the kind of player who likes to be surprised, you might want to be careful about watching too many trailers or reading too much about the game before it comes out.

The launch trailer shows a lot of cool things, but some people might think it gives away too much of the story or shows too many of the bosses.

There’s nothing wrong with wanting to go into the game fresh, so don’t feel bad if you want to avoid learning more until you can play it yourself!

The developers previously released a gameplay trailer that didn’t really give too much away, so if you haven’t seen that yet, that’s a safe option which is spoiler free.
