Crash Bandicoot 4 marked the first true sequel in the platformer series in over a decade, following 2008’s Crash: Mind Over Mutant.

The game brought back beloved franchise staples like the Aku Aku masks and Wumpa Fruit, while introducing new “Quantum Masks” that added a fresh spin on the classic platformer gameplay.

They gave Crash and Coco new abilities, including shifting dimensions, slowing down time, and phasing objects in and out of existence.

Flashback Tapes were special levels which offered challenging platforming sequences set before the events of the original title.

The well-received sequel’s performance has pleased Toys for Bob, with the studio labelling it as a “well-received” entry in the long-running series.

Crash Bandicoot 4’s success is further highlighted by its nomination for “Best Family Game” at the 2020 Game Awards.

The impressive sales milestone comes as Toys for Bob has recently undergone a significant change, transitioning into an independent studio.

The developer has parted ways with Activision and has partnered with Microsoft on a new project, citing the freedom and flexibility of being an indie as a key factor behind the move.

The Future of Crash Bandicoot and Spyro

Spyro The Dragon Comeback

Rumours have already begun to swirl about Toys for Bob’s potential future projects, with speculation suggesting the studio may be working on a Spyro the Dragon sequel.

The developer previously handled the well-received Spyro Reignited Trilogy, and the success of Crash Bandicoot 4 could pave the way for a new Spyro adventure.

As Toys for Bob embarks on its independent journey, the impressive sales of Crash Bandicoot 4 and the potential for new Crash and Spyro titles bode well for the studio’s future.

Fans of the iconic franchises can look forward to seeing what the newly independent Toys for Bob has in store.
