The Dead by Daylight universe is about to expand in a major way with the introduction of The Casing of Frank Stone, a standalone game set to shake up the horror genre.

Developed in collaboration between Behavior Interactive and Supermassive Games, this new title immerses players in a chilling narrative-driven experience unlike anything seen before

The Chilling Depths of Cedar Hills

In the sleepy town of Cedar Hills, Oregon during the summer of 1980, a sinister force stirs beneath the surface.

Four ambitious teenagers – Zoe, Dylan, Sarah and Ryan – dream of making their mark on the horror genre.

Armed with a Super 8 camera, they set out to film a cult classic called “Murder Mill”. Little do they know the terrifying truth their movie will unearth.

What begins as youthful enthusiasm for moviemaking takes a dark turn. By delving into the town’s grisly past, the young filmmakers stumble upon the horrific legacy of Frank Stone – a sadistic serial killer whose depravity defies imagination.

His unspeakable crimes cast a long shadow over Cedar Hills, warping the boundaries of reality itself.

Trailer Reveals Cedar Hills’ Dark Heart

The official DBD YouTube channel has been posting short teasers for a few weeks in relation to this upcoming title. Now, the latest gameplay trailer has been finally released, offering a bone-chilling glimpse into the cosmic horrors awaiting in Cedar Hills.

As the teenagers’ amateur film shoot unravels the truth about Frank Stone, their grasp on reality begins to slip.

Zoe and her friends are confronted by visions of impossible entities and the steel mill’s haunting 1963 past.

Ordinary sets and props take on a sinister life, foreshadowing unimaginable terrors lurking beneath the surface.

With their very existence hanging in the balance, every choice – every camera angle, line reading or clue investigated – could mean the difference between escaping the nightmare or being consumed by it.

Like any good horror story, nothing is as it seems in The Casting of Frank Stone.

A Nightmare Scripted by Your Choices

As the friends unravel Stone’s twisted tale, they find themselves ensnared in a sinister web spun across space and time. The Casting of Frank Stone is a cinematic nightmare where every decision you make holds life-or-death consequences.

Each line of dialogue, each path taken scripts the outcome in this branching narrative.

The game seamlessly blends immersive storytelling with mind-bending puzzles and split-second quick-time events.

To survive, you’ll need keen eyes to uncover shadowy clues scattered across ominous locales like the abandoned steel mill furnace. Missed details could spell doom for Zoe and her friends as they confront the unfathomable – an entity of cosmic terror pulling the strings.

The Casting of Frank Stone - Dead by Daylight Universe

“The Dead by Daylight world has always been filled with deep, haunting stories,” says Dave Richard, Senior Creative Director.

“With The Casting of Frank Stone, we can truly delve into those dark origin tales through an interactive cinematic experience driven by the player’s choices.”

This fresh descent into supernatural horror marks an exciting collaboration between Dead by Daylight developers Behaviour Interactive and narrative experts Supermassive Games. While the multiplayer Dead by Daylight pits Survivors against psychopathic Killers, this spin-off expands the universe as a story-driven single-player journey.

“We can dig deeper into a Killer’s beginnings and let players actually experience it firsthand,” Richard explains.

“It connects back to the Entity but plays out in our world, separate from the Killing Grounds – something entirely new for us.”

The total playtime is estimated between 5-7 hours depending on the paths chosen. Players on PC, PlayStation and Xbox can wishlist the game now before its 2024 release.

Beyond the Silver Screen

The Dead by Daylight universe continues its rapid expansion beyond the multiplayer game’s Killing Grounds. In addition to The Casting of Frank Stone, Behaviour is also developing:

  • Project T – A narrative-driven shooter further exploring the lore
  • What the Fog – A newly released two-player roguelike
  • A Blumhouse film adaptation of the original game

With its focus on intertwined storytelling, player choice and dark supernatural forces, The Casting of Frank Stone stands ready to drag audiences screaming into Dead by Daylight’s most horrifying depths yet.
