Key Highlights:

  • Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance is planned to receive additional VR Missions after launch.
  • Future DLC will also expand the stories of characters other than Raiden.
  • Konami had not confirmed the DLC characters, prices or release dates when the plans first emerged.

Konami is planning post-launch DLC for Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance containing additional VR Missions and side stories centred on characters other than Raiden.

Dengeki PlayStation reported that Konami intends to expand the game with both forms of downloadable content after release. The report did not identify which characters would receive their own stories, and no prices or release dates had been announced.

VR Missions use virtual environments to test specific combat, movement and gameplay skills. Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance already contains VR challenges in the main game, while the planned DLC will add a separate collection of new missions.

Konami later confirmed that the first major DLC pack would add 30 VR Missions, expanding Raiden’s challenge content with new combat and movement scenarios.

The original report about character stories also proved accurate. The second DLC campaign, Jetstream, made Samuel Rodrigues playable and explored events before his confrontation with Raiden.

Blade Wolf followed as the third major DLC release. Its campaign made LQ-84i playable and explored the character’s time under Desperado Enforcement before meeting Raiden.

Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance launches for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 on 19 February 2013 in North America. The UK and Ireland release follows on 22 February.

The DLC plans therefore developed into three major post-launch additions: VR Missions, Jetstream and Blade Wolf.
