Killzone: Mercenary Open Beta Out In August

Killzone Mercenary

Update (August 2025)

As someone who’s followed Killzone: Mercenary closely, I was particularly excited to see the revival of its multiplayer functionality—years after Sony officially shut down the servers on August 12th, 2022—which brought legitimate fears that the game’s online component was gone for good.

Fortunately, as of early October 2023, dedicated fans behind the Vita4Ever project have partially restored Killzone Mercenary’s online multiplayer on private servers. They’ve already demonstrated working matches, and while public access isn’t fully rolled out yet, there’s concrete progress underway.

It’s fair to mention that joining the multiplayer now requires technical steps, most notably using a jailbroken PS Vita or PSTV and connecting to PSN, and that certain trophies tied to online leaderboards (like Aces High) are still unlikely to be obtainable.

The Original Story Follows:

Sony have today officially announced via their PlayStation blog that a multiplayer open beta for Killzone: Mercenary on the PS Vita will commence at some point in late August. They also revealed that the sing-ups for the shooters closed beta are now completely closed.

The beta actually begins today for gamers who wish to take part. The latest instalment uses the exact same engine that was used in Killzone 3.

The epic single-player campaign in Killzone: Mercenary will have nine unique missions that will be well over an hour long.

The highly anticipated game will have three game-types and six maps that will be implemented into an eight-player multiplayer mode. The first-person shooter launches on September 4th in Europe, and the 10th in North America.
