Widespread Outage
Facebook, the world’s leading social media platform with billions of users, was impacted by an outage on the morning of March 5th. Users reported being unable to access their accounts on both desktop and mobile platforms. The outage also affected FB Messenger, a vital communication tool for many individuals.
This inconvienience means that you won’t be able to access anything within the site until everything is restored. Things like Facebook Games, Friends list, photos, messenger and much more.
Over 200,000 users flocked to DownDetector, a website that tracks online service outages, to report problems with the social site. The platform indicated that 64% of users faced issues with the website, while 22% encountered difficulties with the app, and 14% reported login problems.
As of this writing, Meta, the parent company of Facebook, has not officially acknowledged the outage or provided any details about its cause or estimated resolution time. The company also refrained from commenting on the issue through its other social media channels, leaving users in the dark.
Similar Issues on Other Platforms
The outage wasn’t limited to Facebook. Instagram, the popular photo-sharing platform also owned by Meta, experienced its own technical difficulties. Over 9,000 users reported issues with Instagram on DownDetector, primarily related to app functionality. Additionally, users of Threads, another Meta-owned app, encountered problems.
While Facebook, Instagram, and Threads faced significant disruptions, reports suggest other Meta platforms like WhatsApp were largely unaffected.
DownDetector: Monitoring Online Services
DownDetector serves as a valuable resource for users to report and track outages affecting various online services. The platform only registers an incident when the number of reported issues surpasses the typical volume for a specific time, indicating a widespread problem.
Although some users reported regaining access to their FB accounts around 4:30 PM GMT, the official status of the outage and the timeline for full restoration remain unclear. This article will be updated with further information as it becomes available.
