EA to End Online Support for Two Games in July

EA Games Shutting Down 2 Games July 2024

Key Highlights:

  • EA to shut down Super Mega Baseball 2 and Disney Sorcerer’s Arena in July 2024.
  • Battlefield games being delisted from older consoles.
  • NHL 20 and FIFA 22 also set for shutdown later in the year.

In a move that’s sure to disappoint some gamers, Electronic Arts (EA) has announced plans to shut down two of its games this July.

Let’s start with the basics. EA, one of the biggest names in the industry, sometimes has to stop supporting older titles.

This means they turn off the online parts of these games and often remove them from digital shops.

To be fair, EA is pretty good about letting players know when this is going to happen. They keep a list of games they plan to shut down, so fans can play them one last time before they’re gone. This year, we’ve already seen some EA games go offline, and now two more are on the list for the month of July.

Upcoming Game Shutdowns in July

The first game to go is Super Mega Baseball 2, which will shut down on July 24th. This title is a fun, cartoon-style baseball game that many people have enjoyed.

The good news is that you’ll still be able to play it offline after this date. So if you like baseball games that aren’t too serious, you might want to grab this one while you can.

A week later, on the 31st of July, Disney Sorcerer’s Arena will close its doors. This is a mobile game for your phone or tablet.

Once it’s gone, you won’t be able to play it at all! So you’ve got to be quick if you want to grab this one.

Battlefield Entries Delisted for Older Consoles

On the same day that Disney Sorcerer’s Arena shuts down, Electronic Arts are also taking some older Battlefield games off the digital shelves for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360.

This means Battlefield 3, Battlefield 4, and Battlefield: Hardline won’t be available to buy digitally for these older consoles after 31st of July.

Don’t worry if you have a PlayStation 4 or Xbox One, though – you’ll still be able to get B4 and Hardline on those.

Now, if you already own these Battlefield games, you’re probably wondering if you can still play them online with your mates. The answer is yes, but only for a little while longer. The online modes will keep working until November 7th. After that, you’ll only be able to play the single-player parts of the FPS’s.

Future Plans and Ongoing EA Updates

EA isn’t stopping there, though. They’ve got plans to shut down more games later in the year. NHL 20, their ice hockey series, will go offline on September 16th. And if you’re a football fan, you might be sad to hear that FIFA 22 is shutting down on 4th November.

You might be wondering why EA does this. Well, running online games costs money, and as fewer people play older titles, it becomes expensive to keep them going. The servers are what take up most of the cost, and they want players to move on to the newer versions.

It’s not all bad news, though. For fans of Super Mega Baseball, there’s hope for the future. EA now owns the company that makes these games, so we’ll probably see more Super Mega Baseball entries in the future.

If you’re worried about other EA titles getting the chop, keep an eye out for announcements. They might add more to their shutdown list as the year goes on.

It’s always a bit sad when discontinuations happen in gaming, but it’s a normal part of how the video game world works. As old go away, new ones come out.

Remember, if you have any of these games, they won’t disappear from your console or device. You’ll still be able to play the offline parts. And for games like Super Mega Baseball 2, that means you can keep enjoying them for years to come.
