The development team at Ubisoft Quebec, led by Art Director Thierry Dansereau and Technology Director Pierre Fortin, has leveraged new technologies to create a more dynamic and visually stunning world.
The game introduces ray-tracing global illumination, allowing for realistic light interactions with the environment. This feature adapts to player actions, such as destroying bamboo trees or market stalls, creating a more responsive world.
Another significant advancement is the use of micro polygon technology. This innovation eliminates the need for multiple versions of assets at different resolutions, instead creating “intelligent” objects that adjust their detail based on the player’s proximity.
The result is a more efficient use of GPU resources and improved graphical fidelity across the game world.
