Key Highlights:

  • The Zapotron, a long-lost Fortnite weapon, is returning to Fortnite OG on 14 February 2025.
  • Originally available for only 30 minutes in 2017, the weapon has undergone significant balance changes.
  • Fortnite OG continues to rotate through Chapter 1 seasons.

Fortnite’s Zapotron Returns After Nearly a Decade

The Zapotron, one of Fortnite’s most elusive weapons, is set to return to Fortnite OG on 14th February 2025.

This marks the first time the weapon will be available in Battle Royale since its removal in 2017.

Epic Games teased the return in a social media post on X/Twitter, confirming that a single ‘like’ would be enough to bring the weapon back.

Given the post amassed thousands of likes in minutes, the comeback is now all but official.

Fortnite OG has been a nostalgic journey for long-time players, allowing them to relive classic Chapter 1 moments through rotating seasons.

While the Zapotron was never a part of Chapter 1 Season 2, the weapon’s sudden reintroduction has surprised the community.

Its return coincides with Fortnite OG’s ongoing evolution, with Season 3 expected to launch on 25th March.

The Zapotron’s History and Changes

The Zapotron first appeared in Fortnite’s pre-season and was removed within 30 minutes due to its overpowered nature.

The original iteration of the weapon used Energy Cells and boasted a damage output of 50 per shot, with a charged attack that could pierce multiple enemies.

Recent data mining efforts and leaks from HYPEX indicate that the weapon has been reworked for Fortnite OG. The major changes include:

  • Ammo Type: Now uses Heavy Ammo instead of Energy Cells.
  • Damage Nerf: Base damage reduced from 50 to 28.
  • Charge Damage Multiplier Buff: Increased from x3 to x6.
  • Headshot Multiplier: Set at 2.5x.
  • Hitscan Mechanics: Unlike typical sniper rifles, the Zapotron retains First Shot Accuracy and does not suffer from damage drop-off.

These balance adjustments aim to integrate the weapon into the current meta without making it overwhelmingly powerful.

What’s Next for Fortnite OG?

With the Zapotron’s unexpected return, Fortnite OG players are speculating about what other long-lost features might make a comeback.

The mode, which broke records upon its initial revival in 2023, is now a permanent fixture alongside Fortnite’s standard Battle Royale.

Chapter 1 Season 2 is currently active and will conclude on 25 March, when Season 3 is expected to launch.

One feature that did make a welcome return was the iconic double pump shotgun mechanism, which was reintroduced alongside the mode’s return on December 6th last year.

For those uninterested in the OG experience, Fortnite Chapter 6 Season 2 is right around the corner in the main BR mode.

Although Epic Games has yet to confirm details, leaks suggest that the upcoming season—launching on 21st of February—could be themed around heists.

The return of the Zapotron is a landmark moment in Fortnite’s history, giving players the chance to wield a weapon that was previously a mere legend.

Epic’s decision to reintroduce it with adjusted stats ensures a fairer experience while still delivering the excitement of a futuristic sniper rifle.

Whether this signals more vault openings for other classic items remains to be seen, but for now, Fortnite OG fans have a reason to celebrate.
