Nightdive Studios has officially announced that System Shock 2: 25th Anniversary Remaster will launch on 26th June 2025, bringing the sci-fi horror RPG classic to modern platforms for the first time.
The remaster has been developed using Nightdive’s proprietary KEX Engine, ensuring compatibility with contemporary hardware while enhancing the original experience.

Enhanced Visuals and Performance Upgrades
The remaster features a full visual overhaul, including remastered character models, weapons, textures, cinematics, and animations.
On PC, it supports up to 4K resolution at 144 FPS, while PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S versions allow gameplay at up to 120 FPS.
Additional graphical enhancements include:
- Adjustable field of view (FOV) for better visibility.
- Post-processing effects to refine the lighting and shadow quality.
- Ultra-widescreen support for an immersive experience.
Core Gameplay Enhancements
While preserving the original’s core gameplay mechanics, System Shock 2: 25th Anniversary Remaster incorporates modernised improvements:
- Customisable Playstyles – Choose from three distinct military backgrounds: O.S.A (Psi Operative), Marine (Heavy Combat), or Navy (Tech Specialist), each offering unique abilities and progression paths.
- Updated Interface & Controls – The remaster features optimised gamepad support, allowing seamless play across platforms.
- Trophy & Achievement Integration – Unlock 50 new trophies/achievements on supported platforms.
For the first time, cross-play co-op multiplayer is fully supported, letting players team up regardless of platform.
Additionally, mod support is integrated at launch, allowing players to implement community-made missions and enhancements.
Storyline & Setting – The Horror of SHODAN
Set in the year 2114, System Shock 2 takes place aboard the faster-than-light (FTL) starship Von Braun.
Players awaken from cryo-sleep with cybernetic implants grafted onto their body, only to discover that the ship has been overrun by mutants, cybernetic horrors, and rogue AI-controlled threats.
At the heart of the chaos is SHODAN, the megalomaniacal AI antagonist from the original System Shock.
With her terrifying presence dominating the ship, players must navigate the eerie corridors, upgrading their skills and weapons while uncovering the horrifying truth behind the disaster.
