Valheim Call to Arms Update Brings Major Combat Overhaul

A Viking warrior walking on a glowing wooden bridge, rain falling, promoting "Valheim: Call to Arms - Out Now!" in bold letters.

Key Highlights:

  • Call to Arms update adds Trinkets, new skills, weapons, armour, and creatures.
  • Forsaken Powers rebalanced alongside broader combat improvements.
  • Deep North biome teased with a powerful new sword.

The Valheim Call to Arms update is now fully live, and it’s one of the biggest overhauls to combat the game has seen since launch. While fans are still waiting for the long-promised Deep North biome, this patch keeps the community busy with new mechanics, gear, and dangerous enemies.

One of the most interesting additions is the new Trinkets system. Trinkets are equippable items that grant adrenaline during combat, building up over time until they trigger a unique perk. There are 13 different trinkets, each offering its own twist to encounters.

I’ve always felt Valheim’s combat leaned more towards survival than strategy, and these adrenaline surges finally give fights that extra burst of tactical depth.

Alongside trinkets, players can also experiment with wooden weapons, designed for sparring and practice with friends. I think this is a smart move from Iron Gate, it gives new players a way to test combat without risking gear durability, while veterans can host training duels without heavy losses.

Combat has also been rebalanced across the board. Forsaken Powers have been tweaked, and there’s a brand new combat skill to master. Throw in two entirely new creatures, a revamped old one, and suddenly even seasoned Vikings will find themselves challenged again.

The patch also sprinkles in new progression hooks. Players can collect eight crafting materials, craft 18 weapons (including nine wooden types), and equip two armour sets. There’s also one new food itemthree hairstylesfive beard styles, and even some new building pieces to freshen up settlements.

For those curious about the future, Iron Gate slipped in another tease for the Deep North biome – showing a glimpse of a glowing sword that will eventually be craftable there. That little preview alone is enough to keep long-term fans speculating.
