Fable Is Already Getting Post-Launch DLC as Playground Games Reveals Star-Studded Cast

Key Highlights:

  • Playground Games has announced post-launch DLC for Fable months before release.
  • Fable: Order of the Hero will introduce a new region and a cult storyline.
  • An extended gameplay presentation is scheduled for June 10.

Playground Games has confirmed that Fable will receive its first post-launch expansion months before the RPG even launches.

Announced shortly after the game’s appearance at the Xbox Games Showcase, Fable: Order of the Hero is a story-driven expansion that introduces a brand-new region to Albion. Players will investigate the mystery surrounding a hidden cult, but rather than simply destroying it, they’ll be able to shape its future themselves.

Whether players choose a heroic path, embrace mischief, or forge something entirely different, they’ll ultimately become the cult’s leader and decide its destiny.

No release date or pricing details have been announced for the expansion, making its reveal several months ahead of launch somewhat surprising. Playground Games also confirmed that fans won’t have to wait long for more footage, with an extended gameplay presentation scheduled for June 10. We got a story trailer back in 2024 so some new footage will be just what the doctor ordered.

The news comes alongside fresh details on Fable’s impressive cast, which combines Hollywood stars with some of Britain’s best-known actors and comedians.

Hayley Atwell, known for her roles in the Marvel Cinematic Universe and Mission: Impossible, will portray the game’s main villain, Isabel. According to associate narrative director Craig Owens, Isabel is a powerful Hero driven by grief and determined to correct a tragic injustice, putting her directly at odds with the player.

Players themselves will take control of the Hero of Briar Hill, voiced by either Lily Nichol or Ukweli Roach. Owens described the protagonist as an ordinary person made extraordinary by fate, with their morality and personality largely shaped by player choice.

Matt King, best known as Super Hans from Peep Show, voices Humphry, Albion’s once legendary Hero. Richard Ayoade takes on the role of Dave the Giant, a self-proclaimed intellectual who accidentally transforms himself into a giant, while What We Do in the Shadows star Natasia Demetriou plays the foul-mouthed Jenny of Bloodstone.

Other cast members include Nathan Foad as Jenny’s rival brother Jacob, Susan Wokoma as the reluctant Hero Arden the Cobbler, Kwame Augustine as the player’s adoptive brother Connor, Nina Wadia as their grandmother Samira, and Robert Whitelock as the perpetually overwhelmed Sheriff Nigel.

According to Owens, the cast was chosen to maintain the series’ tradition of combining heartfelt storytelling with distinctly British humour.

I have to admit that announcing the DLC before release is unusual, but the concept behind Order of the Hero feels very much in line with what fans expect from Fable. The ability to guide an entire cult down different moral paths sounds like the sort of strange choice-driven storytelling that has always defined Albion.

Fable launches on February 23, 2027, for Xbox Series X|S, PC, PlayStation 5, and Steam. Premium Edition owners will gain early access beginning February 18, while the game will also be available through Game Pass on day one.
