Key Highlights:

  • HoYoverse has revealed Nodusfall, a dark multi-mythology co-op action game from the studio behind Genshin Impact.
  • Players become Weavers, working together to defeat huge mythological creatures while unlocking new weapons, skills and combat builds.
  • Nodusfall has no confirmed release date or platforms yet, but pre-registration is already open through the official website.

NODUSFALL was one of the biggest surprises to come out of GAMESCOM OPENING NIGHT LIVE 2026, as HoYoverse revealed a new fantasy action game that looks very different from anything I expected to see from the studio.

Coming from the company behind GENSHIN IMPACT, HONKAI: STAR RAIL and ZENLESS ZONE ZERO, Nodusfall swaps the colourful anime-inspired style HoYoverse has become known for in favour of a darker, more realistic fantasy world.

According to the OFFICIAL NODUSFALL REVEAL, the game is a multi-mythology co-op action title built around realistic visuals and cooperative combat, with players taking on the role of Weavers in a world where divine authority has crumbled.

As someone who loved Genshin Impact, I genuinely couldn’t believe this was HoYoverse when the trailer first appeared. It feels like such a dramatic change for the studio, and that alone has made me very curious to see where Nodusfall goes next.

The world of Nodusfall isn’t doing particularly well when we arrive.

Divine authority has fallen apart and the order that once held everything together has collapsed. Players become Weavers, forging bonds with powerful companions as they attempt to restore order to the world.

That means facing some absolutely enormous enemies along the way.

HoYoverse is drawing inspiration from mythologies around the world, with creatures ranging from ferocious beasts rooted in Eastern mythology to huge Western dragons.

Different regions will also have their own landscapes, ecosystems, cultures and histories, rather than simply placing creatures from different mythologies into the same environment.

The world premiere trailer certainly doesn’t hold back on scale. Huge mythical creatures dominate the environments, while groups of characters can be seen joining forces against enemies considerably larger than themselves.

Defeating these powerful beings plays into the wider story too. Weavers will seize the divine power that remains as they continue their journey to rebuild the world’s lost order.

Nodusfall is being designed around cooperative battles rather than players facing these monsters entirely alone.

HoYoverse says encounters with its larger enemies will require teamwork and strategy, with players fighting alongside companions to bring them down.

Winning those battles will also reward players with resources that can unlock new skills and weapons.

Characters can be developed using different combat styles and skill combinations, giving players the chance to create builds around both their own preferences and what their team needs.

That makes me even more interested in seeing proper uninterrupted gameplay.

The reveal gives us a taste of the huge battles HoYoverse is aiming for, but seeing how all of those skills, weapons and different builds actually work together is probably going to tell us much more about what Nodusfall really is.

Perhaps the most surprising part of Nodusfall is simply looking at it.

HoYoverse has built an enormous audience around games with distinctive anime-inspired characters and bright, stylised worlds. Nodusfall immediately stands apart with realistic characters, enormous creatures and a much darker fantasy setting.

A translucent, spectral figure swings a golden, ornate staff downwards towards a large, horned, beast-like creature, set against a rocky, mountainous backdrop.

It’s also being developed using Unreal Engine 5, marking another noticeable difference from the studio’s best-known releases.

I’ve spent plenty of time in Genshin Impact, so seeing the HoYoverse name appear alongside something this dark was one of those moments where I genuinely had to double-check who was making it.

There are already comparisons being made to games such as Monster Hunter and Elden Ring, particularly because of the enormous enemies, realistic fantasy world and emphasis on multiple characters tackling creatures together.

For now, though, those comparisons should stay as comparisons.

HoYoverse itself describes Nodusfall as a multi-mythology cooperative action game, and we haven’t seen enough of its wider systems yet to know exactly how similar it will actually be to either of them.

Despite a pretty substantial reveal trailer, HoYoverse is keeping some of the biggest Nodusfall details quiet.

There is currently no release date or release window, and platforms have not yet been announced.

We also don’t know how the game will be monetised. HoYoverse hasn’t confirmed whether Nodusfall will follow the free-to-play model associated with games such as Genshin Impact, or whether any kind of gacha system will be involved.

What we do know is that Nodusfall is already open for pre-registration through its official website, where players can also follow future development updates.

Going from Genshin Impact to something filled with enormous mythological creatures and a much darker, more realistic world certainly wasn’t what I expected from HoYoverse.

But that’s exactly why I’m so interested in it.

Nodusfall might be one of the studio’s biggest changes of direction yet, and after that first reveal, I’m definitely keeping an eye on this one.
