Key Highlights:
- Toy Story 3 Complete Edition has earned a 4.97/5 PlayStation Store rating from nearly 500 players.
- The updated release includes playable Emperor Zurg, four extra Toy Box packs and local two-player co-op.
- Steam reviews are also largely positive, although players have raised concerns about ageing cutscenes and other technical issues.
Released on October 15, Disney/Pixar Toy Story 3 Complete Edition has earned an almost perfect PlayStation Store rating, with PS5 and PS4 players giving the updated 2010 adventure an average score of 4.97 out of 5 stars.
At the time of writing, the game has received 488 player ratings, with 98% awarding five stars and the remaining 2% giving four. Not a single rating falls below four stars, equivalent to approximately 99.4 out of 100 when converted to a percentage scale.
Available for £19.99 on the UK PlayStation Store, the new edition brings Avalanche Software’s original Toy Story 3 adventure to modern hardware through Digital Eclipse and Atari, featuring improved visuals, resolution and frame rates.
The publisher advertises support for up to 4K resolution at 60 FPS, depending on the platform, although those figures should not be interpreted as a guarantee across every supported system.
Beyond the visual improvements, Complete Edition includes content previously restricted to certain versions of the original game.
Most notably, Emperor Zurg is now playable in Toy Box Mode across all platforms, having originally been exclusive to the PlayStation 3 version. The villain has his own missions, vehicle and distinctive attacks, while four additional Theme Packs expand the sandbox’s customisation options.
I find Zurg’s wider availability more significant than the graphical improvements alone. It removes a platform restriction dating back to 2010, giving returning players access to content they may never have experienced in their original copy.
Toy Box remains one of the game’s biggest attractions. Set in Woody’s Roundup, the open-world sandbox allows players to complete missions, earn gold, unlock new areas, customise buildings and change the appearance of townsfolk.
Story Mode follows Woody, Buzz Lightyear and Jessie through a collection of platforming adventures inspired by the Pixar film, with each character offering different abilities.
Both Story Mode and Toy Box support local two-player co-op. Online multiplayer is not included, although the PC release supports Steam Remote Play Together for remote shared play.
The new edition should also not be confused with the version of Toy Story 3 previously released on PS4 and PS5 in March 2025. That earlier release was based on the PSP game, with a different selection of activities and without the full console version’s Toy Box sandbox.
Despite the near-perfect PlayStation score, reception elsewhere has been slightly more reserved.
Steam currently lists 85% positive reviews from 251 players, while Push Square awarded the PS5 version 7/10, praising the additional content and improved textures but criticising occasional camera problems and muddy-looking cutscenes.
Some Steam players have independently raised similar concerns about the older cinematics, alongside reports of audio glitches and visual pop-in. Those complaints have not prevented the game from receiving a broadly positive reception, but they suggest the graphical improvements are not uniform throughout the experience.
Toy Story 3 Complete Edition is also available on Xbox, Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch 2 and PC.
PlayStation players can purchase it separately for £19.99 or as part of the £32.99 Double Pack, which also contains Toy Story: Retro Roundup!, a separate collection of classic Disney and Pixar games.
