Key Highlights:

  • MOLOKAUST’s $10 Supporters Edition is free to claim and keep on itch.io until 4 November 2026.
  • The Windows PC edition contains new mechanics, areas and enemies beyond the free Steam demo.
  • The Steam demo has 81% positive user reviews, the full Steam game has yet to launch.

A first-person survival horror game called MOLOKAUST is currently free to claim and keep on Windows PC until 4 November 2026, with developer Tomás offering its normally $10 Supporters Edition through itch.io.

The limited-time promotion reduces the price by 100%, allowing players to add the game to their itch.io accounts without paying. Unlike a temporary free weekend, the claimed edition remains theirs after the offer ends.

Players can redeem MOLOKAUST directly from the developer’s itch.io page by selecting Download or claim, signing into a free account and completing the claim at $0. Optional payments remain available for anyone who wants to support the developer.

There’s an important difference between this giveaway and the game’s existing Steam demo.

The itch.io release is labelled the Supporters Edition, which Tomás originally created to help fund continued development. According to his announcement, it contains additional gameplay mechanics, previously unseen areas and more enemies than the demo.

Meanwhile, the MOLOKAUST Steam demo launched on 15 June 2026 and currently holds an 81% positive rating from 121 user reviews. That score applies specifically to the demo, not the Supporters Edition being given away. The planned full Steam release still has no confirmed launch date.

MOLOKAUST combines first-person exploration with limited resources and hostile environments

MOLOKAUST follows a father searching for his missing wife and daughter in Tecka, a town corrupted by an unknown evil. Survival involves exploring hostile environments, scavenging ammunition and carefully managing limited inventory space while confronting violent enemies.

Its first-person gunplay and oppressive environments recall Resident Evil 7, while the rural setting, hostile inhabitants and resource management draw comparisons with Resident Evil 4. Players can wield conventional firearms, including pistols and shotguns, but ammunition remains a valuable resource rather than something to waste.

I think the Supporters Edition is what makes this giveaway particularly interesting. Players aren’t simply receiving another freely available demo. They’re getting access to a separately distributed build containing material that the developer specifically created to support further development.

The giveaway also follows a difficult period for the game’s creator.

In a public development statement, Tomás revealed that MOLOKAUST had been in production for three years but struggled to attract attention following its Steam Next Fest appearance. Despite receiving encouraging feedback, he explained that unemployment and limited funding had made continuing development increasingly difficult.

The Supporters Edition was subsequently introduced at $10, alongside a Patreon where supporters can access additional material and potentially have a character included in the game.

There are a couple of practical details worth knowing before claiming it. Tomás has confirmed that MOLOKAUST currently supports Windows only, although he has expressed interest in investigating a Mac version.

The itch.io download also consists of six parts: five approximately 950 MB archive segments and a final 492 MB ZIP file, totalling roughly 5.2 GB. Players should download all the archive parts together rather than assuming the smaller ZIP file contains the entire game.

For survival horror fans looking for more free experiences, GLN recently covered Resident Evil Outbreak and File #2 becoming playable through web browsers. Those unofficial browser versions offer a different experience, with multiplayer support and no conventional PC installation.

MOLOKAUST also arrives shortly after Epic Games Store gave away Sker Ritual and Home, another Halloween promotion featuring two very different survival horror experiences.

The MOLOKAUST offer ends on Wednesday, 4 November 2026. Players who want the Supporters Edition should complete their free itch.io claim before the deadline, as the developer has not confirmed whether another giveaway will follow.
