The Return of the Double Pump in Fortnite OG
The Double Pump strategy, a defining feature of Fortnite’s early days, is making its triumphant return.
Epic Games has confirmed via X/Twitter that Fortnite OG, a dedicated mode reintroducing the classic map, weapons, and mechanics, will launch on December 6th 2024, bringing back this fan-favourite tactic.
The method involves wielding two Pump Shotguns, alternating between them to bypass the weapon’s slow firing rate. You have to have the weapons next to each other in the item inventory slots for this to work.
On PlayStation, players would spam the R2 and L2 buttons, switching between slots at a super fast rate whilst pressing the shoot button as soon as the slots are switched. On Xbox, this was done via the RT and LT trigger controls.
This tactic allowed skilled players to deliver devastating damage in rapid succession, making it a high-risk, high-reward strategy.
You could literally eliminate players in just over a second, the combat to this was building, but it will be interesting to see just how overpowered this strategy will be in the Zero-Build Mode.
While it was patched out years ago, its reintroduction in Fortnite OG is expected to rekindle fierce battles and tactical diversity.
Fortnite OG Mode: A Nostalgic Journey
Fortnite OG is more than just a throwback; it’s a complete reimagining of the game’s early glory. The mode will feature:
- Classic Seasons: A rotating schedule of gameplay inspired by Fortnite’s earliest updates.
- Original Arsenal: Weapons and items from the initial seasons, including the Pump Shotgun.
- Community-Centric Gameplay: A dedicated experience for fans of the original mechanics, separated from modern features like Zero Build mode.
Epic Games has teased that Fortnite OG will include a permanent map and authentic aesthetics, cementing it as a haven for veterans and newcomers alike.
Why the Double Pump Matters
The Double Pump strategy was both beloved and controversial. Here’s why its comeback is significant:
- Skill Expression: Mastering the technique requires precise timing and sharp aim, rewarding skilled players.
- Meta Shift: Its return is likely to shake up the competitive scene, especially in OG Mode tournaments.
- Nostalgia Factor: For long-time players, the Double Pump embodies Fortnite’s chaotic and unpredictable early days.
Despite its appeal, some players fear its dominance could overshadow alternative playstyles. However, the confined nature of Fortnite OG ensures this mechanic won’t disrupt the main Battle Royale modes.
A Tactical Shotgun Fan’s Perspective
For those who prefer tactical shotguns or alternative strategies, the return of Double Pump may pose a challenge.
Tactical shotgun players value its rapid fire and reliability over the Pump Shotgun’s power and slower cadence.
Yet, even sceptics acknowledge the Double Pump’s role in shaping Fortnite’s identity.
The reintroduction of the Double Pump meta is a bold move by Epic Games, aligning perfectly with the ethos of Fortnite OG.
This nostalgic mode promises to transport players back to the game’s roots, offering a fresh yet familiar experience.
When this tweak arrives, it will be reminiscent of the game’s early days. Whether you embrace or fear the Double Pump, its legacy is undeniable, and it’s ready to make an impact once again.
