ININ Games Acquires Shenmue 3 Publishing Rights

Shenmue 3 New Publisher

Key Highlights:

  • Shenmue 3’s publishing rights transfer from Ys Net to ININ Games, sparking speculation about a potential multiplatform release.
  • ININ Games hints at plans to expand Shenmue 3’s accessibility, aligning with the series’ 25th anniversary celebrations.
  • Fans eagerly anticipate news of a possible Shenmue 4 or expanded availability on platforms like Xbox and Nintendo Switch.

The publishing rights for Shenmue 3 have shifted from Yu Suzuki’s Ys Net to ININ Games, igniting hopes among fans for a multiplatform release of the title.

Previously limited to the PlayStation 4 and PC, the game could now potentially reach a wider audience, including Xbox and Nintendo Switch players.

ININ Games has a reputation for revitalising classic Japanese games, suggesting a renewed focus on accessibility for this beloved franchise.

Released in 2019, Shenmue 3 continued the story of Ryo Hazuki but was confined to a limited audience due to platform exclusivity and its niche appeal.

This move aligns with a press release from ININ Games, which states their excitement to “shepherd Shenmue 3 into its next phase,” ensuring the series’ legacy reaches “even more fans around the world.”

ININ Games Plans to Expand Franchise Accessibility

The company also acknowledged the series’ 25th anniversary and Shenmue 3’s fifth anniversary, hinting at broader plans for celebrations and expansions.

This transition may pave the way for fresh developments. ININ’s previous projects include remakes and re-releases such as Wonder Boy: Asha in Monster World and Space Invaders Forever.

They also published Yu Suzuki’s recent game, Air Twister, on both consoles and PC, following its debut on Apple Arcade.

These moves signal a strategy that prioritises accessibility and cross-platform availability, potentially pointing to similar ambitions for Shenmue 3.

Fans of the series remain vocal about their desire for a fourth instalment.

Earlier this year, a dedicated group of enthusiasts rented Times Square billboards to campaign for Shenmue 4.

Though, there have been plenty of hiccups along the way and development hasn’t quite got going on the fourth entry as of this writing.

While Suzuki has expressed interest in continuing the series, he has also hinted at making future instalments more approachable to a broader audience.

This shift in publishing rights may serve as a stepping stone toward fulfilling these ambitions.

For now, Shenmue 3 remains available on PS4 and PC. However, with ININ Games at the helm, the next phase of the Shenmue saga seems poised to deliver both expanded reach and renewed excitement for its loyal fanbase.

Fans are encouraged to stay tuned for announcements, as ININ Games promises to honour the series’ legacy while unveiling its vision for the future.
