Behaviour Interactive has announced a major overhaul of Dead by Daylight’s late 2025 content roadmap, shifting the focus from new chapters to quality-of-life improvements and long-requested fixes.
The news comes after a turbulent week for the asymmetrical horror title, which saw its anniversary crossover livestream with The Walking Dead disrupted by a distributed denial-of-service (DDoS) attack.
Community director Eric Pope and executive producer Jose Ramos revealed the reworked roadmap during an August 14th developer update, confirming that the next public test build (PTB) will now launch in early September, while the upcoming original chapter has been delayed to allow for additional development and polish.
Phase One: Immediate Stability and Fixes
The first phase, running through late August, will focus on addressing issues introduced in the July mid-chapter update. A third August patch, expected the week of August 25, will target stability improvements and bug fixes.
According to Pope, the additional time will ensure that the next chapter debuts in a more polished state, something veteran players know has been a pain point in recent releases.
Phase Two: Killer Overhauls and Meta Adjustments
From October to January, the November chapter slot will be replaced with a gameplay-focused update. This will rework The Shape (Michael Myers), alongside changes to controversial Killer tactics such as slugging, camping, and tunnelling. These adjustments are aimed at improving match flow and reducing frustration for Survivors without stripping Killers of strategic depth.
As someone who has played competitive Killer for years, I can say this phase could redefine high-level DBD gameplay if implemented well.
The winter event will still go ahead as planned, ensuring seasonal content isn’t sacrificed for the sake of the overhaul.
Phase Three: Matchmaking and Beyond
February 2026 and beyond will bring more structural improvements, including a planned rework of Dead by Daylight’s matchmaking rating (MMR) system. While no ETA has been given, the changes are intended to create fairer match-ups and reduce extreme skill gaps.
Despite the shift in development focus, seasonal and special events remain unaffected. The popular 2v8 mode will return on August 19th, and all holiday events will continue as planned.
For long-time fans, this change in direction signals that Behaviour Interactive is willing to slow down the content treadmill to tackle underlying gameplay frustrations – something the community has been asking for since the game’s early years.
If executed properly, this roadmap could mark one of the most impactful periods in Dead by Daylight’s history.
