Mortal Kombat 1 storms into the Game Catalogue with a rebooted storyline where Fire God Liu Kang reshapes the Mortal Kombat universe. The cinematic presentation feels like the series at its most confident, but it’s the new Kameo system that stands out. Having put hundreds of hours into it, I can say it fundamentally changes the fight flow – extending combos, opening counterplay, and adding tactical depth without slowing the pace.
It’s still gloriously violent, but the expanded mechanics give it more depth than some might expect from a series famous for its spectacle. In my review, i gave it a solid rating, its definitely worth getting for free 100%.
Marvel’s Spider-Man also swings into the service for both PS4 and PS5, but with a welcome twist. PS5 owners get Marvel’s Spider-Man Remastered, while PS4 players receive the Game of the Year Edition — and in some regions, the option to stream the base game. This is the version of Peter Parker I enjoy most, and I still find myself web-swinging aimlessly just for the sheer joy of movement, a hallmark of truly great game design.
Day-one arrival Sword of the Sea brings a different energy. From the creator of Journey and ABZÛ, it’s a serene yet exhilarating blend of surfing and skateboarding through surreal landscapes. It’s the kind of game that makes you slow down, take in the scenery, and still feel momentum under your feet.
Supporting titles flesh out the month’s variety: Earth Defense Force 6 for chaotic bug battles, Unicorn Overlord for strategic fantasy warfare, and Atelier Ryza 3 as a heartfelt finale for its alchemist heroine. Quieter gems like Indika, Harold Halibut, and Coral Island offer thoughtful alternatives to the high-action headliners.
Premium members get a nostalgia hit with the original Resident Evil 2 and Resident Evil 3: Nemesis. Enhanced with up-rendering, rewind, quick save, and filter options, they capture the tension and atmosphere of the ’90s classics without their dated frustrations. GOG recently added them to their catalogue last year, perhaps PlayStation saw the success and decided to follow suit.
This is a well-balanced month for PS Plus – big hitters to draw you in, day-one indies to keep things fresh, and enhanced classics for long-time fans. For me, it’s the kind of lineup that justifies the subscription and makes you want to try something outside your usual favourites.
