Fans of the iconic Metal Gear Solid franchise were treated to a thrilling new look at the upcoming remake of the legendary Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater.

Now officially titled Metal Gear Solid Delta, this ambitious project aims to revive the beloved 2004 classic with stunning modern visuals powered by the cutting-edge Unreal Engine 5.

Up until now, all we got was a quick teaser with the announcement in May of 2023.

While an exact release date remains tightly under wraps, the latest extensive gameplay trailer offered a tantalising glimpse into how Delta is faithfully recreating and enhancing the original game’s most memorable moments and levels.

A Faithful Recreation

Right from the opening sequence, MGS Delta looks set to be a loving tribute to Snake Eater’s origins.

We see series protagonist Naked Snake plunging from the skies once more in an intense HALO jump that kicks off his covert mission in the remote Russian jungles.

As Snake stealthily infiltrates enemy compounds, we’re treated to remade versions of iconic locales like swamps, forests and abandoned factories – now realised with lush, highly-detailed environments and incredible next-gen graphical fidelity.

Signature gameplay elements from the original make a return as well. Snake can blend into his surroundings by crawling through mud, prepare cuisine by hunting local wildlife with his trusty tranquilliser gun, and even don that iconic crocodile cap camouflage!

However, the trailer didn’t just focus on Snake’s sneaking antics. We were also shown electrifying remakes of Snake Eater’s most epic action setpieces and boss battles brought screaming to life in dazzlingly realised cutscenes.

From the legendary special operations spy commandeering a motorcycle sidecar to blast enemy helicopters with a rocket launcher, to his dramatic first confrontation with his mysterious mentor The Boss atop a rickety rope bridge.

The footage perfectly captured the game’s distinctive blend of tense stealth and gripping cinematic flair. If you thought the in-game screenshots that the developers shared over a year ago were good, this latest footage will blow your mind!

Familiar Voices Return

Speaking of fan service, the trailer also marked the highly-anticipated return of original voice actor David Hayter to his iconic role as Naked Snake.

We hear his signature gravelly tones once more as he chokes out enemy soldiers and interrogates them at knifepoint.

Konami have been busy with this franchise in particular as of late. They recently released the MGS Master Collection Vol. 1 last October which went down a treat within the community.

With stunningly remade versions of the original’s action-packed gameplay and beloved story moments on full display, anticipation is sure to be at a fever pitch for more details on when to expect Metal Gear Solid Delta’s completed launch.

Whenever that may be, it’s shaping up to be a must-play experience for genre fans new and old alike.
