Roll up, roll up! Come one, come all! Konami has shouted from the rooftop, announcing the imminent launch of the much-awaited Metal Gear Solid Master Collection Vol. 1, now hitting the shelves on October 24th. Their shout out about this exciting release came amidst the animated chatter of Nintendo Direct on June 21st. Amidst a flurry of new arrivals, including two surprise releases of classic GameCube games for the Switch, this news decidedly stood out.

Earlier revealed at the PlayStation Showcase, the Metal Gear Solid Master Collection Vol. 1 was originally thought to be exclusively headed for PC, and the contemporary consoles of Sony and Microsoft. However, today’s Nintendo Direct chat show, much to everyone’s delight, assured Switch players that the collection would land on their devices come the end of October.

What’s more, a tantalising trailer at the June 21st spectacle offered a sneak peek into the vault of bonuses that the collection brings. Stacked on the high shelf of this extra content trove, we found the NES port of Metal Gear, though one mustn’t muddle it up with the substantially different MSX original that also graces the collection. In addition, Snake’s Revenge snuck into the pile, both of these being bonus games developed sans the deft touch of Hideo Kojima.

The fun doesn’t stop here. The collection pulls out all the stops by adding the Digital Graphic Novel of Metal Gear Solid and its sequel, interactive comic books that first came into light on PSP in 2006. To sweeten the deal, each game in the collection is bundled with a digital screenplay book filled to the brim with all in-game dialogues, character briefings, and Codec call scripts. And if you thought that was all, think again! Five digital master books are thrown into the deal, offering strategic guidance, memorable character quotes, and a plethora of information about the first five Kojima-produced Metal Gear games.

The coup de grace? The Metal Gear Solid Master Collection Vol. 1 arrives with a condensed digital soundtrack, featuring 20 iconic melodies from the series, including the crowd-favourites, Theme of Solid Snake and Snake Eater by Cynthia Harrell.

Looking forward, the release of Metal Gear Solid Master Collection Vol. 1 will be succeeded by MGS Delta: Snake Eater, a remake of MGS3. Although the release date remains a mystery, it could sneak into the gaming world as early as 2024. And as the future unfolds, Konami has revealed they’re open to the idea of more Metal Gear remakes.

So mark your calendars! October 24th sees the grand release of the Metal Gear Solid Master Collection Vol. 1 on PC, PS5, Switch, and Xbox Series X/S. It’s certainly one to watch!
