Key Highlights:

  • Marvel’s Venom spin-off is now reportedly targeting a 2026 release on PS5.
  • The game will launch before Marvel’s Wolverine and fill the gap between Spider-Man 2 & Spider-Man 3.
  • Tony Todd reportedly recorded voice work for the standalone title prior to his passing.

A standalone Marvel Venom game from Insomniac is reportedly back in the spotlight, with a new release window set for 2026, according to a recent claim.

The spin-off, expected to follow in the narrative footsteps of Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 as a PS5 exclusive – remains unannounced by Sony or Insomniac Games, but its existence was widely believed following the studio’s significant data leak in 2023.

Now, more than halfway through 2025 with no official reveal, fans had begun to suspect the project was quietly shelved or delayed.

A new update suggests the latter is true: Venom is still in development but will not arrive until next year.

The report originates from The Maggshow, a YouTuber who claims the Venom title will release ahead of Marvel’s Wolverine, which is reportedly targeting 2027. You can check out his video below if you’re interested:

This positions Venom as a narrative bridge between Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 (2023) and Spider-Man 3, which is allegedly on track for 2029 and may be a cross-generation title.

The structure aligns with Insomniac’s release cadence:

  • Spider-Man (2018)
  • Miles Morales (2020)
  • Spider-Man 2 (2023)
  • Venom (2026, reportedly)
  • Spider-Man 3 (2029, reportedly)

This pacing suggests that Venom may share similarities in scope with Miles Morales, a self-contained narrative built atop the mainline games’ engine and systems.

The timeline has surprised some, as spin-offs typically require less production time. However, the delay into 2026 may point to a more ambitious standalone experience, possibly exploring Eddie Brock’s full character arc post-Spider-Man 2, or even expanding on Insomniac’s symbiote mechanics introduced in that title.

The fact that Eddie Brock wasn’t even the alter-ego in that universe, leaves room to bring him back.

It’s worth noting that Venom actor Tony Todd, who tragically passed away in 2024, is believed to have recorded significant additional voice work beyond what appeared in Spider-Man 2.

This supports the likelihood that Insomniac had already planned and perhaps begun development on a solo Venom title well in advance.

It would be interesting to see if they didn’t have enough voice work from the late great Todd to work with, if they could tempt Tom Hardy into filling in the role.

Fans would no-doubt welcome the Brit on-board, and the steep rise in celebrity actors and actresses transitioning to gaming in the last decade proves bagging Hardy is not an impossible task.

The British actor does have a past with video games too, he famously narrated the announcement trailer for Chronicles Medieval. We will have to wait and see if Insomniac can tempt him into the role.

So far, neither Insomniac Games nor Sony has addressed the Venom reports, and no assets, trailers, or formal announcements have surfaced since the 2023 leak.

Given how far out the game reportedly is, it’s possible Venom will be officially revealed in late 2025 or early 2026 for PlayStation 5, once Marvel’s Wolverine marketing ramps up.

Do not expect to see anything at the upcoming Gamescom event this August, as you’ll most likely end up disappointed. That is far too soon, unless Sony catches all by surprise.

Until late this fall or early 2026, all claims should be treated with caution. The Maggshow does not yet have a verified track record for accurate industry leaks.

Still, with multiple games in Insomniac’s pipeline, and recent reports of budget adjustments at the studio, a 2026 window would help maintain PlayStation’s first-party calendar between major flagship releases.

If true, Venom would serve as both a narrative deep dive and a fan-service-rich title focused on one of Marvel’s most iconic anti-heroes – all while keeping the Spider-Man universe active ahead of its next mainline entry.
