Stray Dog: nobody cares has been revealed by Parry Frames Studio, and Souls fans who ever wished they could play as Great Grey Wolf Sif may finally be getting something remarkably close.
The upcoming dark-fantasy action game puts players in control of an unnamed stray hound raised by a disgraced knight. When its master is captured by the legion occupying the border region of Greythorn, the dog takes his battered sword between its jaws and sets out to bring him home.
The knight once served the legion for decades before being cast aside after discovering its secrets. He eventually lived an isolated life with the hound he had raised since birth, meaning the dog’s motivation is considerably simpler than saving kingdoms or defeating gods: it just wants its person back.
That emotional setup already feels familiar to anyone who remembers fighting Great Grey Wolf Sif in Dark Souls. Stray Dog’s four-legged protagonist also carries a sword in its mouth, although this time players are on the canine side of the fight rather than being forced to emotionally recover afterwards.
As someone who has spent far too much time in Souls games, I think putting the player directly into a Sif-inspired combat style is far more interesting than simply creating another knight with a dodge roll — although I am already preparing myself for the inevitable emotional damage if anything happens to this dog.
For those unfamiliar with the comparison, Great Grey Wolf Sif is one of Dark Souls’ most memorable bosses. The enormous wolf fights with a sword held in its mouth while guarding the grave of its former companion, Artorias the Abysswalker. The encounter became particularly memorable among players for its emotional story,with Sif eventually limping and struggling to continue fighting as its health falls.. Stray Dog: nobody cares is its own story and protagonist, but placing a blade between the jaws of a canine Soulslike hero makes the influence difficult to miss.
The resemblance does not stop at the protagonist. Stray Dog features precision parries, backstabs and deathblows alongside special combat arts, stealth kills and boss encounters. Exploration through Soulslike levels rewards EXP and gold that can be used to unlock additional skills.
Parry Frames Studio says the game’s combat framework has already been completed, although the wider project remains in development.
The studio itself is relatively small. Parry Frames previously developed Crimson Oath, another Soulslike which launched in April 2026 after years spent learning game development and Unreal Engine. The team also received an Epic MegaGrant while working on that project.
Stray Dog appears to have caught considerably more attention than the studio expected. Parry Frames said early footage suddenly gained traction online, bringing a wave of new interest to the project shortly after its reveal.
For now, anyone hoping to become the goodest Tarnished will need to wait. Stray Dog: nobody cares is listed as coming soon on Steam, with no confirmed release date or console versions announced.
