Trion have announced that their sci-fi video game (Defiance) has had more than one million accounts created by users since it was launched at the start of last month. The MMORPG third-person shooter seems to have been a massive hit with video game, and TV fans alike.
Trion also went on to say that many milestones have been achieved by the players in just a short space of time. The TV viewers are on the up consistently too, with record numbers tuning in for the first two episodes in the series. Along with the announcement, Trion also supplied some interesting statistics as well.
- 1,000,000 Arkfalls have been battled back by Ark Hunters.
- More than 500,000,000 hellbugs have been killed so far.
- 50,000,000 miles in have been driven by players in ATVs.
It is set in a post-apocalyptic world where humans and various alien species coexist on Earth after the arrival of a massive alien spacecraft. The game is set in a future version of Earth, known as the San Francisco Bay Area, following the emergence of an alien race called the Votans. The game takes place in a persistent online world that is influenced by events from the companion television series, also titled “Defiance.
The third-person shooter offers both cooperative and competitive gameplay elements. Players can complete story-driven missions, engage in player-versus-environment (PvE) encounters, participate in dynamic events, and compete against other players in player-versus-player (PvP) battles. Players create their own characters, choosing from different playable races and classes. As they progress, they can customise their appearance, acquire new weapons and equipment, and develop their skills and abilities.
The title has adopted a free-to-play model, allowing players to access the core game without a subscription fee. However, additional content, such as DLC expansion packs and cosmetic items, can be purchased through microtransactions.
Defiance was released last month on April 2nd 2013 for the Windows PC, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360.
