Following a massive delay, Rocksteady finally announces a new release date for its upcoming DC super villain action game, Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League. The gameplay reveal at a PlayStation State of Play in February was poorly received, the developers had to indefinitely postpone the game. However, with a new target release date, Rocksteady aims to make some changes for the better.

Fans were perplexed when Rocksteady announced Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League in August 2020. The upcoming game features DC villains King Shark, Harley Quinn, Deadshot and Captain Boomerang, pitted against the likes of Batman, The Flash, and Superman. Given Rocksteady’s reputation for the Batman: Arkham series, it seems bizarre that the studio has pivoted towards a four-player co-op shooter set in Metropolis and has left many wondering about their reasoning behind the decision.

The AAA gaming market is flooded with live-service titles, which has made many gamers concerned about whether the upcoming game would follow Marvel’s Avengers‘ poorly received approach. Kill the Justice League had an original release window of 2022, then May 26th, 2023, but its latest delay has moved the game’s launch to a new target date, which the studio hopes will be final.

New Date Announced On Social Media

Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League broke its silence on Twitter and announced a new release date of February 2nd, 2024. The game had been silent for over a month following its PlayStation State of Play appearance, where players were underwhelmed by its combat and live-service elements. The new date is almost a year after the reveal and you can view the tweet posted below:

The poor reception of the gameplay reveal seems to have ultimately prompted the new nine-month delay. The heavy focus on shooter combat in Kill the Justice League has left some fans discontent. Given Rocksteady’s past success with close-quarters hand-to-hand Batman combat in Arkham games, fans are questioning why the upcoming game relies so much on third-person shooter gameplay, especially when the game features four DC villains with brawler capabilities.

Rocksteady may be working to reduce the emphasis on third-person shooter elements or add more overall variety in the game. Fans will have to wait longer to jump into Metropolis as the developers take extra time to make improvements.

The release date for Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League is set for February 2nd, 2024, and gamers can expect to play it on PS5, Xbox Series X/S and Windows PC.
