Ubisoft’s Star Wars Outlaws, set for release next year, invites enthusiasts on an exhilarating exploration of the notorious criminal world of the renowned distant galaxy. This announcement was a continuation of Ubisoft’s commitment from 2021, when they teamed up with Lucasfilm Games to create a Star Wars open-world game.

The development of this colossal space odyssey has been assigned to Massive Entertainment, the makers of The Division 2 and The Crew 2. The game is rumoured to provide players the thrilling opportunity to control a medley of classic Star Wars aircraft and brand-new innovations while venturing across multiple planets.

Official information on Ubisoft’s open-world Star Wars game, initially labelled as “Project Helix”, has been scant over the two years since its proclamation, although there’s been no shortage of conjecture and leaks regarding more details. Earlier this year, a tantalising hint dropped by Massive Entertainment’s creative director Julian Gerighty, along with an unverified claim that Project Helix is slated for an early 2024 launch, stirred quite a bit of excitement among the fans.

Star Wars Outlaws: Unravelling the Teaser Trailer

Now, the once cryptic Project Helix is slated for a 2024 release with a new official title and intriguing plot details. The Xbox Games Showcase kicked off today with Massive Entertainment unveiling a CGI teaser for Star Wars Outlaws, set within the timeline of the original movie trilogy. The trailer follows an unnamed female protagonist, engaged in a game of Sabacc in a bustling cantina, talking about how the galaxy is ruled by “Syndicates”. The scene abruptly shifts when bounty hunters burst in, causing her and her feline alien ally to hastily retreat.

Chaos breaks out in the bar to mask her exit, and she swiftly climbs onto a speeder bike outside, vowing to resist restraint. This pursuit of liberty leads her to her spaceship, where a stranger named Jalen, reminiscent of Kyle Katarn from the Dark Forces games, offers assistance for a mysterious mission.

Star Wars Outlaws: The Expected Gameplay and Launch Date

A montage of our heroine infiltrating Syndicate fortresses, battling adversaries on her swoop bike, and eluding the Empire in her ship, precedes the revelation of the game’s official title, Star Wars Outlaws, along with a broad 2024 release timeframe. The teaser may not have shown gameplay footage, but Outlaws seems poised to take fans on a thrilling exploration of Star Wars’ criminal underworld, echoing the premise of unfulfilled projects like Star Wars 1313. The much-anticipated Star Wars Outlaws is expected to deliver on this potential when it debuts next year.
