Nintendo has officially named its previously announced Luigi’s Mansion: Dark Moon remaster Luigi’s Mansion 2 HD and confirmed a summer 2024 release window for Nintendo Switch.
The enhanced version first appeared during Nintendo’s June 2023 showcase without a final title. September’s Nintendo Direct provided the Luigi’s Mansion 2 HD name and a longer look at its updated presentation.
The new footage shows Luigi exploring the five haunted locations found throughout Evershade Valley. These include Gloomy Manor, the former plant research facility known as Haunted Towers, the Old Clockworks factory, Secret Mine and Treacherous Mansion.
Professor E. Gadd sends Luigi into each location to recover fragments of the shattered Dark Moon. Luigi uses the Strobulb to stun ghosts before capturing them with the Poltergust 5000.
Nintendo describes Luigi’s Mansion 2 HD as a visually enhanced version of the 2013 Nintendo 3DS game. The Direct footage demonstrates sharper environments, more detailed character models, improved lighting and a higher-resolution interface.
The Nintendo Switch version will also retain ScareScraper multiplayer. Up to four players can work together online, while local wireless play allows nearby Switch owners to tackle the haunted tower as a group.
ScareScraper contains multiple multiplayer challenges rather than sections of the main campaign. Players cooperate to capture ghosts, complete objectives and clear successive floors within a time limit.
Nintendo had not confirmed an exact release date or price when the September Direct aired. The company later set the Luigi’s Mansion 2 HD release date for 27 June 2024.
Luigi’s Mansion 2 HD eventually launched worldwide for Nintendo Switch on that date. The remaster preserved the original campaign and ScareScraper structure rather than introducing a new story or additional mansion.
