After years of delays and uncertainties, the highly anticipated action RPG Granblue Fantasy: Relink is finally within grasping reach for fans, with developer Cygames announcing a demo will release in January 2024. Eager players on PS4 and PS5 will get hands-on with Relink ahead of its firm February 1, 2024 launch date. Check out the announcement trailer below to get a better idea of what to expect.
This demo comes after Relink has been in development limbo since its initial announcement way back in 2016 under the working title Project Re:Link. It began as a collaboration between Cygames and esteemed studio PlatinumGames, makers of fast-paced action titles like Bayonetta and Nier: Automata.
But in 2019, PlatinumGames exited the project, leaving Granblue Fantasy developer Cygames to take over fully. Numerous delays later, a firm release date still seemed questionable.
Fans can rest easier now knowing they’ll get significant hands-on time with Relink next month. The demo will include a tutorial, main story content, and online co-op quests supporting up to four players. The news was shared by the devs on social media site X.
Across these modes, players can sample 11 playable characters. All progress and rewards earned in the demo will carry over to the full game post-launch.
This comes alongside a host of other Relink details revealed recently by Cygames, including new characters, creatures, and theme song information.
New Playable Characters Teased

Several new characters were showcased who will join the roster as playable fighters. This includes Cagliostro, an alchemist who manipulates earth energy and will be available at launch.
The sword-wielding Eternal known as Seofon and his Halberd-toting counterpart Tweyen were also revealed. While not playable immediately at launch, the pair will be added as DLC in a free update coming April 2024.
Other characters highlighted include Maglielle, Gallanza, and Id – three members of the Church of Avia who will serve as antagonists.
Primal Beasts Summon Godlike Strength

Three powerful primal beasts were also displayed, bringing their mammoth might into Relink’s battles. Furycane resembles a centaur and controls the vitality of nature, while the robotic Excavallion embodies fortification.
Most striking is the fanged behemoth Managarmr, possessing a singular massive horn. This primal beast can manipulate space itself, promising unique attacks.
Theme Song Sets Nighttime Tone
The title’s main theme song was announced as “Good Night, Good Morning,” performed by singer Nao Toyama. The evocative title hints at a brooding, nighttime atmosphere for Relink’s adventure.
With this heaping of new details and a demo on the horizon, Granblue Fantasy: Relink seems poised to finally deliver on its long-developing promise in early 2024. There’s plenty here to satisfy series fans who have awaited this spinoff for years.
The demo’s focus on online multiplayer should also draw those craving co-op action RPGs they can enjoy with others. If the sample delivers on Cygames’ boasts, players will have another excellent title to ring in 2024 with when Granblue Fantasy: Relink sees full release.
