Key Highlights:

  • Major class balance changes coming to World of Warcraft Classic’s Season of Discovery phase 2
  • Significant buffs for mages, hunters, paladins, warlocks, and warriors
  • Mages getting big damage and healing boosts, hunters stronger multi-shots
  • Warriors’ Devastate ability becoming more viable
  • Goal is to balance classes/specs after feedback from Gnomeregan raid

In the latest update for World of Warcraft Classic’s Season of Discovery, Blizzard has implemented major class tuning changes aimed at addressing imbalances that emerged during phase two. The March 5th hotfix brings sweeping improvements to mages, hunters, and several other classes that fell behind in recent weeks.

Powerful Mage Enhancements

Mage players, particularly those specialising in damage and healing roles, stand to benefit most from the rebalancing. For arcane, fire, and frost mages, base damage from key abilities like Frostfire Bolt and Spellfrost Bolt is increasing by a whopping 50%. Bonus spell damage scaling for these nukes also rises substantially to match other spells.

Meanwhile, the regeneration and preservation spells used by mage healers receive an 88% boost to spell power coefficients. This compensates for mage healers typically equipping gear granting overall damage/healing stats rather than pure healing power. Additionally, Chronostatic Preservation costs 44% less mana.

These mage adjustments should dramatically elevate their damage output and sustainability for all specialisations in tougher Season of Discovery content going forward.

Archer Class Rises

Hunters also get major offensive upgrades. Multi-shot abilities like Chimera Shot, Explosive Shot, and Carve see their weapon damage scaling increase between 15-20%. Chimera Shot’s Serpent Sting portion likewise improves.

With these archer changes, hunters should regain their standings as premier sustained ranged damage dealers and valuable assets for party compositions. Their ability to apply consistent pressure from a safe distance becomes particularly crucial in longer, gruelling encounters.

Other Notable Adjustments

While not as sweeping, several other classes receive meaningful boosts as well:

  • Paladins deal 10-15% more weapon damage through Seal of Martyrdom and its Judgement effect. These abilities now scale with Seal of Righteousness talents.
  • Warlocks’ Grimoire of Synergy increases their and their pet’s damage by 25% when active instead of just 5%.
  • The warrior ability Devastate ramps up to 150% weapon damage before modifiers like Sunder Armour stacks.

These changes aim to elevate these classes’ performance in line with stronger specs like restoration shaman.

Season of Discovery Rebalancing

Blizzard implemented these class adjustments after analysing data and feedback from the first two phases of Season of Discovery, which revamped the original World of Warcraft Classic with new mechanics and content. Phase two’s Gnomeregan raid in particular revealed imbalances prompting this rebalancing.

As an alternate take on vanilla WoW experiences, Season of Discovery grants developers freedom to continually finetune classes without deviating from the spirit of classic gameplay. While not all specs will feel equal power immediately, this patch aims to establish a stronger foundation.

Looking ahead, phase three plans to raise the level cap from 40 to 50 while further expanding upon Season of Discovery’s unique ruleset separating it from both modern WoW’s Dragonflight expansion and purist Hardcore Classic servers. Fans can expect Blizzard to closely monitor class performance and make additional adjustments as needed to ensure an engaging, balanced experience across all roles throughout World of Warcraft Classic’s Season of Discovery journey.
