Bloodborne is about to get a Massive Revival

Bloodborne Revival

Key Highlights:

  • Bloodborne, the acclaimed 2015 action-RPG, is making a comeback March 24 – April 7 due to the annual “Return to Yharnam” community event.
  • Players are encouraged to start a new character and engage in co-op to revitalise Bloodborne’s online multiplayer after years of player decline.
  • Meanwhile, a fan has created an impressive Unreal Engine 5 remake of the game.

FromSoftware’s gothic masterpiece Bloodborne is destined for a temporary renaissance starting March 24th. The annual “Return to Yharnam” community event seeks to inject new life into the horror action-RPG’s fading online components nearly a decade after its initial 2015 release on the PS4.

During the two-week period spanning March 24th through April 7th, Bloodborne fans are rallying together to start fresh characters and journey cooperatively through Yharnam’s eldritch, beast-infested nightmare once more.

Participants are encouraged to leave specific messages near lanterns signalling their involvement.

The source of the information is from a well known fan of the series on social site X/Twitter. They are rarely wrong about information when it comes to Bloodborne.

The ultimate goal? Maximising Bloodborne’s co-op and PVP participation for a concentrated window. While the title boasted a highly active multiplayer scene at launch, its playerbase has steadily diminished over the years as fans migrated to newer FromSoft offerings like Elden Ring.

However, this annual community-driven event provides the perfect opportunity for newcomers and lapsed fans alike to experience the modern cult classic in its fully-realised, jolly cooperation-fuelled form.

An Unofficial Remaster Teases New Life

As exciting as this temporary multiplayer resurgence may be, many fans have their sights set on the prospect of an official Bloodborne remaster or full remake from Sony itself. Rumours and reports of such a project have swirled for years now, yet no definitive announcement has materialised.

In the absence of any word from PlayStation, one talented fan has taken matters into their own hands.

YouTuber Maxime Foulquier has spent over a year painstakingly reconstructing the opening areas of Yharnam within Unreal Engine 5 with jaw-dropping results.

Foulquier’s reimagining stays refreshingly faithful to the original’s distinct gothic, Victorian vibe while leveraging UE5’s advanced graphical capabilities. Yharnam’s twisting streets and looming cathedrals take on new haunting detail and atmospheric flourishes. Surfaces glisten with realistic moisture, while shadows play across crevices thanks to state-of-the-art lighting and particle effects.

While the project seems to have gone dormant for now, the footage alone proves how much potential a full Bloodborne rebuild could have in the right hands. As of this writing the content creator hasn’t uploaded for 6 months. Hopefully they will get back to the project sooner rather than later.

It’s the complete package fans crave, stunning visuals complementing the already stellar art direction, environments, and gameplay that made the original so iconic.

Whether through grassroots online events like Return to Yharnam or unofficial remakes, it’s clearer than ever that FromSoftware’s gothic odyssey maintains a fervent global fanbase near a decade later.

With the studio’s slate wide open following Elden Ring’s Shadow of the Erdtree expansion, there’s hope an official revival of the Bloodborne IP could still materialise someday. But until then, fans will keep this dark, disturbing dream alive through their own tireless efforts.
