Iron Gate Studio and Coffee Stain Publishing have unveiled plans for a substantial update to their Viking survival game, Valheim. The forthcoming Bog Witch update promises to introduce a range of new features, including an overhaul of the cooking system, a mysterious new character, and fresh crafting materials.

The centrepiece of this update is the revamped cooking system. Players will soon be able to prepare a variety of meals using ingredients sourced from different biomes.
These dishes will offer multiple servings and provide longer-lasting benefits compared to standard fare, enabling Vikings to host grand feasts.
From Swamp Dweller’s Delight to Plains Pie Picnic, Valheim’s latest recipes showcase the unique flavours of each region.
New Skills and Workstations
Accompanying this culinary expansion is the introduction of a new Cooking skill.
As players hone their culinary abilities, they’ll be able to reduce food preparation time and potentially create extra servings.
To complement these new cooking options, Vikings will have the opportunity to upgrade their kitchens with new workstations, including a Food Preparation Table and a Mead Ketill.
The Mysterious Bog Witch
A mysterious new character, the Bog Witch, will make her debut in the Swamps biome. Residing in a wooden hut adorned with charms and candles, this vendor will offer rare potions, spices, and crafting materials in exchange for gold.
Unlike Haldor, the merchant in the Black Forest, the Bog Witch deals in more specialised and magical items, hinting at a deeper, mystical lore connected to her character.
These items can be used to craft tonics, meads, and drinks that boost important stats like strength, dexterity, and endurance.
However, Vikings should approach with caution, as the Bog Witch’s broom is known to be aggressive.
The update also introduces improvements to Valheim’s farming mechanics. A new Scythe tool will allow for quicker crop harvesting, while a Farming skill will reduce the stamina required for using the Cultivator and increase the chances of obtaining bonus crops during harvest.
This is a welcome change for players who focus heavily on agriculture as part of their survival strategy, making farming more efficient and rewarding.
Two new building pieces for decoration will be added, along with unique crafting materials such as Cured Squirrel Hamstring and Powdered Dragon Eggshells, available for purchase from the Bog Witch herself.
Valheim’s Expanding World
