Rayman Legends Retold follows Rayman, Globox, Barbara, Grand Minimus, and Murphy as they attempt to restore peace across the Glade of Dreams after a mysterious villain spreads chaos throughout the world.

According to Ubisoft Brand Producer Loïc Gounon, the goal was to revisit what made Rayman successful while expanding the universe for a new generation of players.

“We wanted to preserve everything fans love, and Legends gave us the perfect foundation to expand Rayman’s lore, its world logic, and how everything connects together.”

The remake introduces several major additions, including fully voiced cinematics, a brand-new storyline, a previously unseen sixth realm, four new musical stages, dragon-riding sequences, and fresh Cave of Trials challenges.

Players can also expect upgraded visuals built around a new 3D presentation. Ubisoft says the Glade of Dreams has been reimagined with additional character interactions and environmental details designed to make the world feel more immersive.

Returning features have also received attention. Kung Foot is back with improved controls and customisable rule sets, while the soundtrack has been expanded with new music from composers Christophe Héral and Grant Kirkhope.

We recently shared a few new screenshots of the game, but now you can just watch the official announcement trailer above.

Why Ubisoft Chose Rayman Legends for a Remake

Following the announcement, Ubisoft Milan developers provided additional insight into why the team selected Rayman Legends as the foundation for Rayman’s return.

Production Director Alessandro Arndt Mucchi explained that the studio sees the remake as a starting point for the franchise’s future. He described the original Legends as a strong base thanks to its gameplay while also highlighting opportunities to strengthen the game’s storytelling and world-building.

According to Mucchi, the original adventure showcased the Glade of Dreams but presented parts of its lore in a disconnected way. The team believed there was an opportunity to connect those elements together through a new retelling.

Realization and Animation Director Marco Renso added that the shift towards a 2.5D and 3D visual approach creates opportunities that were not possible in the original release. He said the new perspective allows the developers to push level design further, create more dynamic environments, and make characters feel more alive through cinematics.

From my perspective, this explanation suggests Ubisoft is treating Rayman Legends Retold as more than a visual upgrade. The focus on connecting the story, expanding the lore, and establishing a foundation for future projects indicates a broader plan for the franchise beyond a single remake.
