Developer Karga Games has released a major content update for Chained Wheels, introducing a brand-new Moon map alongside several gameplay improvements, quality-of-life features and performance upgrades.
Available now, the free update takes players beyond the game’s existing environments and onto the Moon, where teamwork becomes even more important as crews navigate hazardous terrain filled with new mechanics and environmental dangers.
Unlike previous maps, the lunar setting introduces falling meteors, fresh cooperative puzzles and a variety of new obstacles designed to test communication and precision. According to the developers, the Moon isn’t simply a visual reskin, with each section featuring unique gameplay challenges that build upon the game’s core co-op mechanics.
For those unfamiliar with Chained Wheels, the driving game puts two players behind the wheel of separate vehicles that remain permanently connected by a chain. Every movement directly affects both drivers, meaning success depends on communication, careful coordination and learning how to use the chain as both a limitation and a tool.
Rather than rewarding individual driving skill, Chained Wheels focuses on shared problem-solving. Players must work together to overcome physics-based obstacles, adapt to changing terrain and balance momentum while avoiding costly mistakes that can pull both vehicles off course.
I played a few hours of the Moon Map thanks to s Steam key provided by the devs and can honestly say the new hazards like falling meteors and the fresh puzzles really ramp up the teamwork challenge, making the game even more engaging and fun to coordinate with a partner, especially now that split-screen support makes local co-op much easier and more seamless.
Alongside the new Moon content, the update delivers several welcome quality-of-life improvements.
Local co-op now includes a dedicated split-screen mode, giving players another way to enjoy the game together while retaining the original shared-camera option. The user interface has also received a redesign, including a new 3D main menu background, an improved leaderboard screen and estimated completion times displayed when selecting maps.
Performance has also been improved, with the developers reporting average gains of around 10 FPS during internal testing. The update additionally resolves crashes affecting some older AMD graphics cards, fixes Steam Input compatibility issues across certain controllers and includes a range of stability improvements.
The new content builds on a game that has steadily developed its audience since launching on Steam in March 2026. Chained Wheels currently holds a Mostly Positive rating in recent Steam reviews, with players praising its unique cooperative concept and the chaotic moments that emerge when both drivers attempt to work in perfect sync.
I think the Chained Wheels Moon update is exactly the kind of expansion the game needed. Instead of simply introducing another environment, Karga Games has added mechanics that reinforce the game’s core identity. Hazards like falling meteors and new teamwork-focused puzzles encourage players to communicate even more, while split-screen support removes one of the biggest barriers for local co-op sessions.
The Moon update is available now as a free download for all Chained Wheels players on Steam, giving both new and returning duos another challenging destination to conquer together.
