Epic Games has officially announced Fortnite Chapter 7 Season 4: Override, confirming that the new Battle Royale season will begin on August 20, 2026.
The first teaser carries the tagline “Break the rules. Change the game” against a distorted Override logo. Epic’s accompanying X post lists August 20 but does not reveal the Battle Pass, map changes, weapons or story behind the new season.
Override follows Chapter 7 Season 3, also known as Runners. Epic’s official Battle Pass page confirms that the current pass ends on August 20 in Eastern Time, rather than providing August 19 as a universal end date. Players in earlier time zones may still see the transition begin locally on August 19, depending on the final downtime schedule.

The date also corrects an outdated part of Epic Games’ earlier planning. GLN’s coverage of the complete Fortnite 2026 roadmap recorded a seasonal update for September 3, while Chapter 7 Season 4 was tentatively associated with November 28. Epic’s new announcement now establishes August 20 as the official start of Season 4, showing that the internal calendar changed substantially during the year.
Epic had already indicated that a new Battle Royale season would arrive near the end of summer when it changed the 2026 Fortnite Global Championship dates. The finals are scheduled for September 26 and 27 in Antwerp, with Epic saying the revised tournament timing would align with the new season. Override will therefore be active for approximately five weeks before the championship begins.
The Override artwork uses pixelated lettering, visual distortion and interface-like effects. Combined with the “change the game” wording, those elements support the interpretation that Season 4 could focus on wider gaming culture.
However, Epic Games has not officially called Override a Gaming Legends season. The company has also not confirmed Sonic the Hedgehog, Pac-Man, Persona, Kingdom Hearts or any other rumoured crossover for the Battle Pass.
That distinction is important because the teaser validates the leaked Override name but not every claim attached to it. A correct season title can originate from the same leak cycle as inaccurate character lists, so each proposed collaboration still requires separate confirmation.
I read the teaser as a deliberate invitation to expect gaming-related content, but its visual language is not evidence that any specific character has been licensed. Until Epic shows the Battle Pass or publishes individual collaboration teasers, the crossover line-up remains speculation.
Override will arrive soon after Fortnite’s current Sprite collection expanded throughout Chapter 7 Season 3. GLN’s complete list of Fortnite Sprites and variants counted 83 available designs following the July updates, while additional Gem Sprites were scheduled to arrive on August 6. Epic has not said whether Sprites will remain collectible during Season 4.
The absence of a Sprite announcement does not confirm their removal. Fortnite frequently carries selected mechanics and cosmetic systems between seasons, but Epic can also vault or restructure them when a major Battle Royale update launches.
Players should therefore treat August 20 as the only confirmed transition date. Epic has not yet announced the start of downtime, the size of the update or whether an in-game event will directly precede Override.
