Key Highlights:

  • Midnight 12.1.5 is available for testing on the PTR, with no confirmed live release date.
  • Labyrinths offer larger Delve-style adventures that can be completed across multiple sessions.
  • A new story campaign, single-boss raid and Aqir Invasions expand the conflict in Quel’Thalas and Zul’Aman.

World of Warcraft is preparing to take players deeper into Midnight’s story with patch 12.1.5, bringing a new campaign, a single-boss raid, Labyrinths and Aqir Invasions. The update is currently available on the Public Test Realm (PTR), giving players an early opportunity to explore the upcoming content and provide feedback before its live release.

Blizzard’s official overview confirms that the update will continue the events following Ula’tek’s defeat, with the ancient C’Thraxxi general Kith’ix emerging as the next major threat. Players will return to Quel’Thalas and Zul’Aman as the conflict moves towards its conclusion.

The new story campaign, The Promise of Tomorrow, will see players work to maintain an uneasy peace between Quel’Thalas and Zul’Aman before descending beneath the Coiled Isle. There, they will confront the threat that has been imprisoned beneath Ula’tek’s chamber.

That story will culminate in The Unbinding of Kith’ix, a focused single-boss raid. Players will fight alongside Lady Liadrin as they face the ancient general, bringing the escalating conflict to a decisive confrontation.

For players who enjoy exploring Azeroth at their own pace, however, Labyrinths may be the most interesting addition.

Blizzard describes Labyrinths as sprawling, mega-dungeon-like experiences that build on the exploration and companion-based gameplay of Delves. Rather than requiring players to complete everything in one sitting, they can tackle a Labyrinth in a single session or return to it across several visits, progressing at their own pace.

As someone who has spent plenty of time disappearing into Azeroth and forgetting what I was originally supposed to be doing, that flexibility is particularly appealing. Sometimes I want a substantial adventure without feeling as though I need to clear my entire evening just to finish it.

Labyrinths will feature dedicated progression systems, unlocks and rewards, with Valeera Sanguinar accompanying players as they venture deeper. The first, Kindo’jan, is an ancient Amani funeral complex that has remained sealed for centuries. Its reopening has attracted looters and Vilebranch seeking relics, while the spirits buried within are not particularly pleased about the disturbance.

It sounds like exactly the sort of place where I would tell myself I’m only going in for a quick look and emerge several hours later with a full inventory and absolutely no idea what happened to my original plans.

The update will also introduce Aqir Invasions, new zone-wide public events taking place in Eversong or Zul’Aman. These will run for ten minutes every hour, with players completing a sequence of objectives before facing a final boss.

Blizzard has outlined six scenario types, split between combat and non-combat activities, alongside eight possible affixes that can change how an invasion plays out. These include protective barriers, burrowing enemies, Void Spheres and swarms of smaller aqir, giving players different challenges to respond to as they work together.

The aim is to complete as many objectives as possible before the ten-minute window closes, with rewards available for participating champions. It should provide another reason to return to the outdoor zones between the larger story and raid activities.

For players focused on character progression, Ascendant Venomstones will also arrive following the update’s launch. These will allow players to upgrade fully enhanced Season 2 Hero, Mythic or highest-quality Tidal Crafted weapons, trinkets and necklaces.

Blizzard says players will be able to earn the materials through activities including Heroic and Mythic raid bosses, Mythic+ dungeons at +10 and above, Tier 11 Bountiful Delves and Nightmare Prey Hunt Champion gear chests. Ten Ascendant Venomstones will be required for an upgrade.

Taken together, 12.1.5 looks set to offer a mixture of story progression, group challenges and more flexible adventures. Labyrinths are particularly interesting because they expand on a style of content that allows players to explore without committing to a traditional raid or dungeon schedule.

With BlizzCon 2026 taking place on September 12–13, there is also plenty more to look forward to for Warcraft fans. Blizzard has confirmed that the event will feature World of Warcraft programming, alongside the Arena World Championship and Mythic Dungeon International Grand Finals. Whether the show brings further details about Midnight’s future remains to be seen, but it gives players another major date to keep an eye on.

For now, patch 12.1.5 remains on the PTR, and Blizzard has not announced a live release date. Players interested in testing the new content can find the full details in Blizzard’s official Midnight 12.1.5 overview.
