Aspyr has officially announced Shrek 2 Remastered for 10 November 2026, bringing the 2004 action-adventure game back to modern consoles and PC. Revealed during the 20 October ID@Xbox showcase, the remaster comes with an unexpected trailer that pokes fun at Rockstar Games’ Grand Theft Auto 6.
The trailer opens with a parody of GTA 6’s Vice City presentation, complete with similarly styled artwork, before returning to the familiar world of Shrek, Fiona, Donkey and their friends. The timing makes the joke particularly effective, with Rockstar’s latest game scheduled for release just nine days later.
Rockstar recently released its own GTA 6 launch trailer, showing more of Jason and Lucia’s story ahead of 19 November. I think Aspyr has found a clever way to acknowledge the biggest release of the year without letting it overshadow Shrek’s return. Rather than avoiding the comparison, the studio has made it part of the announcement.
Originally published by Activision in 2004 for PlayStation 2, GameCube and the original Xbox, Shrek 2 featured a cooperative adventure through locations inspired by the DreamWorks film.
Aspyr’s official announcement confirms improved textures, updated cutscenes, a redesigned interface and several new features. Photo Mode lets players capture moments throughout the adventure, while a Cheats Menu provides unlockable cheats.
The remaster also expands multiplayer beyond the original couch co-op experience. Up to four players can now play locally, online or through mixed sessions combining both. Characters can be swapped during gameplay, allowing players to use their individual abilities to defeat enemies and solve environmental puzzles.
Visual improvements include support for 4K resolution on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, PC and Nintendo Switch 2 when docked. Aspyr has not listed the original Nintendo Switch among the platforms receiving 4K support.
Digital pre-orders are already available, with the UK Steam edition currently discounted to £21.68 from £24.09. Steam’s published minimum PC requirements also specify 16 GB of RAM and 12 GB of available storage.
There are additional discounts for Xbox players. According to the official ID@Xbox showcase recap, Game Pass members can receive up to 20% off a pre-order, while non-members receive 10% off until 9 November. On PS5, a PlayStation Plus subscription is required to claim the 10% pre-order discount.
Shrek 2 Remastered arrives on 10 November, with the Xbox pre-order offers ending the day before launch.
