Key Highlights:

  • Shadow of the Tomb Raider: Definitive Edition is now available on Nintendo Switch 2.
  • The release includes all seven DLC challenge tombs, additional weapons, outfits and skills.
  • The complete Survivor Trilogy is now available on Switch 2, with launch discounts running until 4 November.

Aspyr has surprise-released Shadow of the Tomb Raider: Definitive Edition on Nintendo Switch 2 today, 22 October 2026, completing Lara Croft’s three-game Survivor Trilogy on Nintendo’s latest console.

Originally released in September 2018, Shadow of the Tomb Raider concludes the story that began with Tomb Raider in 2013 and continued through Rise of the Tomb Raider in 2015. The final chapter follows Lara into the jungles of Central and South America as she searches for the hidden city of Paititi and attempts to prevent a Maya apocalypse.

The Nintendo Switch 2 release includes the complete Definitive Edition, combining the main campaign with seven additional challenge tombs, downloadable weapons, outfits and skills. Players can also tackle selected DLC challenge tombs in two-player online co-op, although the main story remains a single-player experience.

The game is available digitally through the Nintendo eShop, with a 10% launch discount running until 4 November 2026. Aspyr has also introduced the Tomb Raider: Definitive Survivor Trilogy bundle, bringing all three reboot games together with a separate 10% discount.

The release completes a staggered rollout that began on 18 November 2025, when Tomb Raider: Definitive Edition arrived on both Nintendo Switch and Switch 2. Aspyr followed with Rise of the Tomb Raider: 20 Year Celebration on 9 June 2026, exclusively for Switch 2.

Interestingly, this outcome was far from guaranteed when the first game arrived.

During a December 2025 interview with Nintendo Everything, Aspyr product manager Jordon Reese explained that the positive reception to the original port encouraged the studio to explore bringing the remaining Survivor games to Nintendo hardware. At the time, however, Aspyr could not confirm any further releases.

The decision to reserve the later games for Switch 2 also reflects their greater technical demands. Aspyr previously explained that bringing Rise of the Tomb Raider to the original Switch would have required substantial reductions to environmental detail and visual effects.

I think completing the trilogy on one Nintendo console is the real attraction here, particularly for players who want to experience Lara’s entire rebooted story in handheld mode. However, I would hold off on drawing conclusions about Shadow of the Tomb Raider’s performance until the new port has been independently tested.

Beyond the Survivor Trilogy, Nintendo players can also experience Lara’s earlier adventures through the Tomb Raider I-III Remastered collection and Tomb Raider IV-VI Remastered, both originally released for Nintendo Switch.

There is more on the horizon, too. The upcoming Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis is scheduled to bring a complete reimagining of the 1996 original to Switch 2 on 12 February 2027.

For players interested in purchasing Shadow of the Tomb Raider or the complete Survivor Trilogy, the current launch discounts are available until 4 November.
