Bethesda confirmed the PlayStation 3 release dates for all three major The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim DLC add-ons, ending the long wait for Dragonborn, Hearthfire and Dawnguard on Sony’s console.
Dragonborn was scheduled to arrive first in North America on 12 February 2013, followed by Hearthfire on 19 February and Dawnguard on 26 February. European players received the English-language versions one day later, on 13, 20 and 27 February respectively.
The unusual release order meant PS3 players received Dragonborn first, despite it being Skyrim’s third major expansion. The add-on had already launched for Xbox 360 in December 2012 and was also due to reach PC through Steam on 5 February.
All three PS3 add-ons were offered at 50% off during their first week on the PlayStation Store. Dragonborn and Dawnguard received the larger discounts, while Hearthfire was also reduced for its launch week.
The release schedule followed months of uncertainty surrounding Skyrim DLC on PS3. Bethesda had previously acknowledged technical problems with bringing the additional content to Sony’s console, but Dragonborn, Hearthfire, Dawnguard and the required Skyrim 1.8 title update eventually cleared Sony certification.
Update 1.8 was released before the first DLC and included general memory and stability improvements alongside fixes for several bugs. It was also required to run the new PS3 add-ons.
The February rollout went ahead as planned for the English-language releases, finally bringing all three of Skyrim’s major expansions to PlayStation 3.
