Ubisoft has released a new unboxing trailer for the Assassin’s Creed 4 Black Flag Buccaneer Edition, providing a closer look at the physical and digital extras included with the collector’s package.
The official Buccaneer Edition unboxing shows its Edward Kenway figurine, collector’s box, art book, soundtrack and other extras ahead of the game’s release later this year.
The centrepiece is a 45cm figurine of Edward Kenway standing on the Jackdaw’s crow’s nest. It is joined by a high-quality art book, the official Black Flag soundtrack and two lithographs supplied in a protective envelope.
The Buccaneer Edition also includes three additional single-player missions: Black Island, Hidden Mystery and Sacrificed Secrets.
Black Island sends Edward after cargo from Captain Morgan’s sunken ship, while Hidden Mystery follows the trail of Stede Bonnet on St Lucia. Sacrificed Secrets revolves around recovering treasure associated with Sir Francis Drake, including his golden weapons.
Additional single-player and multiplayer items are also included through the Captain Kenway’s Legacy content.
GLN previously detailed Black Flag’s four European collector’s editions when Ubisoft first revealed the Buccaneer, Black Chest, Skull and Special Editions in March.
The Buccaneer Edition sits below the larger Black Chest Edition in terms of physical extras, but its 45cm Edward Kenway figure still makes it substantially different from a conventional special edition. I think that figurine is the real reason to choose this version, because the remaining extras are largely variations of content Ubisoft is spreading across several Black Flag editions.
In the UK, the Buccaneer Edition is exclusive to GAME, while GameStop carries it in Ireland.
Assassin’s Creed 4 Black Flag launches first on PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and Wii U on October 29 in North America and November 1 in Europe. The PC version is due several weeks after the console editions, while PlayStation 4 and Xbox One versions will arrive alongside the new generation of consoles.
Later update: The three bonus missions promoted as part of the Buccaneer Edition did not remain tied permanently to the physical collector’s package. Black Island, Hidden Mystery and Sacrificed Secrets were subsequently made available through Black Flag’s wider digital content catalogue and are now included with the Gold Edition alongside other downloadable packs.
The physical Buccaneer Edition itself remains distinct because of its collector’s box, lithographs, soundtrack, art book and large Edward Kenway figurine, while the gameplay content it once used as a selling point became available separately.
