Call of Duty’s forthcoming season appears to hint at a fresh collaboration with Amazon’s acclaimed superhero series, The Boys. A recent teaser for Call of Duty’s Season 4 showcased Warzone 2’s vivid new battle royale arena, Vondel, during the Summer Game Fest, sparking speculation of a potential alliance.

Call of Duty has established a reputation since the 2019 reboot of Modern Warfare for partnering with well-liked characters from the world of cinema. Classic horror icons such as Leatherface, Ghostface, and Jigsaw, were brought into Black Ops Cold War, alongside 80s action figures like John McClane from Die Hard and Rambo. Not long ago, Vanguard also saw the addition of Godzilla, King Kong, and the Terminator to the Call of Duty universe. The latest key collaboration saw Crash Bandicoot joining the ranks in Modern Warfare 2.

A tweet by The Boys featuring an image of a building from the Season 4 trailer with the show’s logo spray-painted on it, prompted a response from Call of Duty (see below). The reply included a meme featuring Captain Price from 2019’s Modern Warfare, hinting that an alliance between the two franchises is on the cards.

What to Expect from the Call of Duty and The Boys Collaboration

The precise nature of the collaboration remains uncertain. One possibility is that, much like the cinematic collaborations of the past, characters from The Boys will join the list of operators. The series poster boy, Homelander, is a likely candidate for inclusion. Homelander has been previously mooted as a character in the Mortal Kombat 1’s latest Kombat Pack leak alongside other anti-hero characters such as DC’s Peacemaker and Omni Man from Invincible, another Amazon superhero hit. Other characters from The Boys, like Billy Butcher or Soldier Boy, might also be part of the Call of Duty collaboration.

The timing seems appropriate, with the anticipated release of The Boys’ fourth season later this year or in early 2024. The popular superhero franchise, a refreshing break from the Marvel universe, is slowly making its mark in the gaming world with not only Call of Duty but also possibly Mortal Kombat 1. There’s little else known about when The Boys will make their Call of Duty debut, so fans will likely need to wait until later in Call of Duty’s Season 4, starting June 14, for further details.

Call of Duty: Warzone 2 is currently available on Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, PC, PS4 and PS5.
