In a preparatory move for the release of the forthcoming Cyberpunk 2077 DLC, Phantom Liberty, CD Projekt Red has unveiled revised PC system requirements. The revised requirements, amped up from the prior specifications, stem from the firm’s commitment to refining the gaming experience by introducing augmented features.

Anticipating Phantom Liberty: The Reason Behind The Upgrade

It’s no secret to CD Projekt Red’s loyal followers or the early adopters of Cyberpunk 2077 that the game debuted with notable performance hiccups on PC. While it would be unfair to pin these issues solely on the initial PC requirements for Cyberpunk 2077, it’s plausible that CD Projekt Red’s benchmarks for the necessary hardware were misaligned with the game’s actual needs. Consider, for example, the previously listed minimum requirements, which included 8GB of RAM, a 70GB HDD, a GTX 970 with 3GB of VRAM, and a Intel Core i5-3570K.

Cyberpunk 2077 System Requirements

The revamped PC requirements for Cyberpunk 2077 feature quite a leap forward. While the minimum specifications still aim for 1080p resolution, they now also specify a 30fps target. The updated requirements comprise an i7-6700/Ryzen 5 1600 CPU, a GeForce GTX 1060 GB/Radeon RX 580 8GB/Arc A380, 12GB of RAM, and most importantly, 70GB of SSD space, with HDDs no longer recommended.

What the New Minimum Specifications Mean for Gamers

On the other hand, the ultra settings specifications have also seen an upswing. For a 60 fps, 2160p resolution gameplay with ultra settings, gamers are suggested to have a Core i9-12900/Ryzen 9 7900X CPU, GeForce RTX 3080/Radeon RX 7900 XTX GPU, 12 GB of VRAM, 20 GB of RAM, and an NVMe storage device. That said, the ultimate Cyberpunk 2077 experience pushes the bar higher with the RT Overdrive recommendations, calling for a GeForce RTX 4080 GPU, and 16 GB of VRAM, 24 GB of RAM.

The fresh Cyberpunk 2077 requirements come from CD Projekt Red’s internal testing. It’s worth clarifying that these are suggested configurations, not strict prerequisites. The game won’t cease to operate on hardware that meets the prior minimum requirements, but performance levels could fluctuate. Yesterday the release date was officially revealed for Phantom Liberty at the Xbox Games Showcase.

These updated specifications will take effect with Cyberpunk 2077’s next update, which is due in no less than 90 days. They will be applicable to both the base Cyberpunk 2077 game and Phantom Liberty, which is set to launch on September 26th. This move should set more accurate expectations for Cyberpunk 2077’s performance, and hopefully, this time, CD Projekt Red will live up to them.
