To those well-versed in the Assassin’s Creed world, they would know that Mirage delves into the story of Basim’s past in the exotic city of Baghdad, focusing on his initiation into the clandestine group known as the Hidden Ones. Echoing the very first game where it all started, not only does the backdrop hold a sense of nostalgia, but several gameplay features, such as the distinctive screen grain, also channel the series’ roots.

Parallels have been frequently drawn between the game’s parkour and that seen in the Ezio chapters, with avid fans treated to sporadic glimpses of the game via trailers and snapshots over the previous couple of months. Ubisoft Forward, however, finally lifted the veil on the enigmatic Hidden One – Basim.

Ubisoft Forward’s presentation for Assassin’s Creed Mirage opened with what appeared to be Basim’s initial exposure to the Tenants, offering insights into the significance of feathers for the Hidden Ones. It also gave a first look at several masks worn by the Order of the Ancient members, triggering questions around the Hidden Ones and their interpretation of “freedom.”

Key themes such as the essence of freedom, the sacrifices required to attain it, and the existential question of fulfilling one’s destiny without self-awareness are the bedrock of the title’s narrative. Basim’s journey in the evocative city of Baghdad, his solo exploits, and other experiences shape his comprehension and bond with the Creed.

Gameplay Mechanics: A First Glance at Assassin’s Creed Mirage
