Ubisoft is reigniting a nostalgic flame in the hearts of Assassin’s Creed players with its new game, Assassin’s Creed Mirage, which delves into the action-adventure roots of the iconic series, bringing back an endearing aspect from its 2007 debut.

Delving into the world of Assassin’s Creed Mirage

The latest addition to the Assassin’s Creed franchise catapults players into the hustle and bustle of Baghdad in the 9th century, placing them in the shoes of Basim, a sprightly street urchin on a transformative journey to becoming an esteemed Master Assassin. The game is a salute to the original Assassin’s Creed, shifting its focus from the recent RPG elements, prominent in Assassin’s Creed Valhalla, back towards its foundational action-adventure dynamics.

In Assassin’s Creed Mirage, the spotlight is on gameplay, with Ubisoft touting Basim as “the most adaptable Assassin” in the series’ lineage. Utilising a wide array of tools and boasting advanced parkour skills, Basim effortlessly manoeuvres through the vibrant, teeming landscapes of Baghdad.

Ubisoft, in a video aptly named “A Return to the Roots,” showcases a distinctive feature of Assassin’s Creed Mirage – a “nostalgic visual filter”. An amazing nostalgic nod to the PC, PS3, and Xbox 360 era, this option bestows upon the game a subdued blue-grey hue akin to the original Assassin’s Creed’s aesthetics when activated. The feature is displayed as Basim navigates Baghdad, executing a rooftop assassination.

Ubisoft reaffirms that a devoted team, bearing deep reverence for the original game, has crafted Assassin’s Creed Mirage. While “parkour, stealth and assassinations” are the game’s essential components, the developers hint at unexpected twists in store. The nostalgic visual filter is one such surprise, with more to be unveiled in future footage and teasers.

This old-school colour palette feature is a delightful nod to the series’ history, although it could be seen as mere fanservice. Yet, it signals Ubisoft’s franchises reverting to their original principles, aiming to regain favour with their community and enthrall fans with captivating new launches.

Introducing Arabic Voice-overs

While Assassin’s Creed Mirage harks back to the franchise’s origins, it also introduces intriguing features that could guide the series in a fresh direction. A landmark for the franchise, Assassin’s Creed Mirage will debut Arabic voice-overs and subtitles, emphasising Ubisoft’s meticulous attention to detail, a quality that may shape future Assassin’s Creed releases.

Assassin’s Creed Mirage is slated for release on October 12th for Windows PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S.
