The developer of Dying Light 2, Techland, has released an announcement that fans of the game might find disheartening. The release date for the eagerly anticipated Dying Light 2 DLC 2 has been pushed back to 2024. This much-awaited addition to the game had initially been promised for delivery before the conclusion of 2023, while the rest of Techland’s scheduled updates will continue unabated.
Dying Light 2’s Plan for Continued Support and New Content
Since Dying Light 2’s release on the 4th of February, 2022, Techland has maintained a regular roll-out of updates, following the example set by the original Dying Light. This beloved game is projected to see continued support and fresh content until 2027, under Techland’s five-year plan. The first DLC expansion, Dying Light 2: Bloody Ties, was launched in November of 2022, and plans for the development of the second DLC extension had been established with a 2023 release date in mind. However, the official news about Dying Light 2 DLC 2 remained thin on the ground throughout the first half of 2023, and the recent announcement by Techland provides some context.
In a press release featured on the official Dying Light 2 website, Techland disclosed that the launch of DLC 2 will be postponed until 2024. The decision was taken to allow the development team more time to perfect this new story expansion. It was further confirmed that Dying Light 2 DLC 2 will introduce extra gameplay mechanics and a fresh map, the details of which are yet to be revealed. Additionally, Techland reiterated its commitment to continually refining the game with complimentary updates, with a few more additions planned before the release of the forthcoming DLC.
In order to keep fans engaged and informed, Techland has scheduled a livestream for the 29th of June, during which time they plan to unveil upcoming events and transformative updates. In anticipation of this, fans are invited to join the official Techland Discord server and submit any questions they may have about DLC 2 for an AMA session with Tymon Smektala, the franchise director, on the 16th of June.
Dying Light 2: The Impact of the Delay on the Game’s Evolution
While this news might be a letdown for Dying Light 2 fans, it offers Techland a precious commodity: time to perfect their product. After facing criticism for bugs and glitches following the launch of the Bloody Ties DLC, Techland will likely be eager to sidestep similar issues with DLC 2.
Techland’s transparency with its fanbase regarding post-launch content is laudable. We recently reported on the potential crossover with Call of Juarez: Gunslinger which fans can look forward to. Finally, the recent Gut Feeling update of Dying Light 2 continues to point the way ahead, offering an array of enticing new features and content for fans to delve into whilst they await the release of DLC 2.
Dying Light 2 can currently be played on PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S and Windows PC.
